Roscoe010
Can anyone recommend any waters where there are tons of dogfish? I know of a couple lakes around the MN River where there are a lot, but you cant take boats out there. This may seem like a dumb question, but those things fight really hard. Thanks. Gifford Lake aka Depot in Chaska has alot of them. You can also launch a boat there...a small one.
StillwaterAaron
Not dumb at all they are a blast! My buddy caught one on the croix that was a couple oz short of the state record but why wreck a night of fishing by rushing to a scale and finding the fish lost oz falling short of the record. Love to see those big ones over 10 pounds!
aanderud
Dogfish are great! I love those things. I rarely catch them though, maybe once every 5 years at most.I caught one in once while dragging a leech on a lindy rig on walleye opener. Thought I had a 15 pound or better walleye, to be sure. Well, it ended up being like a 6 lb dogfish. They can sure fight for their size. I heard that they could breath air, so I figured I'd test it out. We drained all the water out of the livewell after fishing, and I left him in the livewell almost 18 hours without water overnight (remember, this was mid-May, and it wasn't hot out by any means). I released him off the dock the next day when we went back to the same lake, and he acted like nothing happened. Crazy.
Comit 2
Quote:where there are tons of dogfish? No small order. Tons? Small rivers with dams. At the dam. You are right about a boat. fish fight much better when they can dive deep. When shore fishing you keep moving them shallower and it take away from the fight. Roscoe010
That's rights "tons" of them. They're just mean and ugly and lots of fun. I had one fling blood all over my boat last summer after it slipped out of my hands and began thrashing around like some crazy heavy metal fan. ETH310
Below the Peltier dam has tons and tons, however this is a shore fishing spot. I would use a bigger minnow because there are thousands of bullheads that would steal your bait if you're using a small minnow.
JBMasterAngler
The river below the peltier dam is just about high and dry. No water going over the dam either.
