Picture of a Silver Phase Pike

I let the fish go. I didn't know exactly what it was until I did a little research on it. I guess they are pretty rare, but they do get much bigger. The DNR actually used to keep a seperate record (around 18lbs) until the found out the silver phase was just a color variation of the normal pike.

Hiya,
Cool fish man! Silver pike (some call them 'blue pike') are really neat. They show up from time to time in some lakes. The state record is out of Snowbank lake if I recall.

Lake Belle Taine near Nevis has quite a few in there, and I've caught some out of a few other lakes in that area. My favorite ice panfish lake has quite a few of them. When I'm out there I usually have a tip-up set out for pike and catch a blue about every other trip. Biggest one was around 12 pounds. They really are beautiful fish - pictures don't do them justice. In the lake I ice fish, they really are almost blue across the back with silvery sides.

Biggest one I've seen was caught by Mary Penny, one of the writers that writes for us at Esox Angler. She caught one about 26 pounds up in the Northwest Territories. If you took a quick glance at it you'd think it was a nice 'clear' muskie. Really an awesome fish, and talk about a one in a million...

Neat critters...

Cheers,
RK
