Aux in 07 GMC Duramax SLE

The problem with that is that its a one way communication. If your sound system is not set up for "phone" than there is also not a microphone to pick up the audio in the car when you are hands free.

Your owners manual should be able to give you more insight on whether or not your entertainment system supports hands free phone use. If you don't have one you can get a PDF version at the GM HSOforum. You will need a yahoo I.D. To use it.

I don't think bluetooth was available in the Silverado until 2009. Otherwise the only other option offered would be the On Star hands free calling option. There was a way to add your On Star number to your cell phone contract and use the minutes from your cell vs. buying them from On Star.

I would check with your nearest dealership to verify your trucks equipment package and if that's still possible.

Well try this: I assume you have a set of ear buds or something to that affect. Plug them into the phone and call someone. Can they hear you;can you hear them? If both answers are yes than it would work in your truck as well. Your phone should patch the audio through the aux cord, but use the mic of the phone to hear what you are saying.

I "found out" the same thing you did as I got a call on my phone, HTC incredible, while I was listening to Pandora. Hit the answer button before I disconnected from my stereo and I heard the "hello" I said hello back and asked if I could be heard "ok" and I was told that they could.

The only draw back is you may get an echo affect.

$.03 (inflation sucks btw)

Not trying to be a law Nazi here, but I believe wearing head/earphones are illegal while driving. I see people doing it all the time but I'm 99.999% certain it's illegal.

I assumed this was a given to try it in a safe environment?

On a second note I do know that one ear bud is acceptable on a motorbike, does the same hold true in a car

here is what I ended up doing in my 06 ford diesel, I was looking into a good blue tooth head set to use, as now it is illegal to use a phone without hands free system in a commercialy plated vehicle, and i wanted something hands free to use while plowing snow... a GOOD headset would have cost at a minimum 100 bucks... and I got looking into CD decks one day, mostly by accident, and found out they sell them with blue tooth capabilities... I ended up putting one in, I believe it was about 140 bucks, and it works sweet. make sure to get one with a microphone to pick up your voice... The audio is great on my end, and USUALLY good on the other end, I know every once in awhile the girlfriend will say it sounds a bit funny, but i have NEVER had anyone not able to understand and talk with me... I have had this set up almost a year now and it has worked slick for me, and no complaints from others about picking up noise from the road, or the diesel motor... Research them a bit, I am sure there are nicer ones than the one I put in even... I believe mine is a pioneer...

Just another not terribly expensive option,

Josh

I don't know this for sure. I think the bluetooth ear pieces for cell phones are legal for now. Atleast until legislation is passed to ban all cell phone use while driving.

If you have a vehicle that is DOT certified or that requires a CDL then a hands free device is the only legal way to talk from what I understand.

I bought a Blue Parrot hands free blue tooth headset for when I am driving my truck. It has a very good noise cancelling system that lets me talk without background noise even when the AC is on or the window is open.

I am not sure it will work with an Apple Iphone but I bought a motorola roadster bluetooth device that clips onto my visor and will also broadcast through the stereo in the car. I sometimes have issues with people being able to hear me well and have to keep the windows shut but other than that it's not bad.

I have used it to play music and streaming content from my phone thru the radio as well.

cellphoneshop dot com has the $100 jawbones for $35.

I have a Verizon phone and I could ' tie ' my OnStar to my Verizon package for $10 per month and just share the minute between the 2. Not sure if that's an option anymore but it might be worth looking into. You end up with another phone number for your truck.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
