lispeej
This was caught at a lake in winona mn. Not sure what type of fish it is. Looks like a sunny but body is longer than normal. What type of fish is this? Thanks.
pushbutton
Green sunfish or some sort of green cross.....little buggers put up a heck of a fight don't they?
mainbutter
Kind of looks like a green sunfish, but I'd lean towards greenie/bluegill hybrid.

pushbutton
Could be a warmouth as I am not that familiar with them, but the blue green lines by the eye and the lack of patterns in the fins are keeping me in the greenish camp.
fisherman-andy
Definitely a hybrid green and probably the most abundant panfish here in the Metro waters.

Walleye Guy
I'd go warmouth as well...
fisherman-andy
Let me go a little further on the green hybrid theory. Possible cross between gill/pumpkinseed or even a warmouth. Its non dark stripes on cheek give it away as a green hybrid, but I cant exactly make out the stripe color of the fish, likely light green? Warmouths have dark stripes. Breams typically have a rounder shape body but there's no telling for sure without DNA testing. Depending on the stronger trait of each species and mixing of species past 1st gen spawns may have diluted some trait features. I may say a green/warmouth hybrid at best? Purebred warmouth have the features: (no green color patterns) - Deep, compressed body - Black opercular spot - Large, terminal mouth - Large eye - Tail fin lobes rounded - Pectoral fin rounded - Dark stripes on cheek - Dark mottling on body - Some mottling on fins
goblueM
Definitely a hybrid green and probably the most abundant panfish here in the Metro waters. I've panfished in at least a dozen metro lakes and have never seen one of those - predominately bluegills is what I have encountered

The green sunfish or green hybrids are all over. They can survive muddy low oxygen waters better then gills & pumpkins.
