Chevolet 6.0 motor

Recommended Posts

What are the thoughts on this motor. I see a lot of the 2500s for sale with this motor and I have seen a couple of the 1500HD with them. How is the power and the fuel consumption. Comparable to the Dodge 5.9 and I am sure the power is better then the Ford 5.4. I pull a medium sized boat and a bumper pull horse trailer so I am just wondering how it would do

There will be no issues with pulling anything, but mileage is not going to be good. The sad part is the mileage is about the same whether you are pulling a house or unloaded. 11 is about it, maybe 14 with a tailwind.

I used run many 2010 and 2011 3500s Chevy with the 6.0l, and they were really bad with fuel. Empty 11mpg, towing any camper/5th wheel around 6.5mpg.

My wife drives a Yukon XL Denali with the 6.0l and AWD. I have chipped it and installed a cold air intake. We get 17 plus on a trip and 14-15 all around MPG. I do have to say it has highway gears though, not 4.10 truck gearing. Pulls the boat and car trailer great. Also, I do alot of business with a company that has 20 or so 2500 Silverado's, all 6.0l, with some close to 300k hard miles. Engine itself seems bulletproof.

My son has has a 6.0 Trailblazer Super Sport and gets 16 mpg on the road not pulling anything. I don't know what he gets pulling his 22 foot fiberglass boat but it will smoke the tires from a dead stop. I am glad it is his!!!!
