02 F150 tail light lens

Recommended Posts

Bulb burned out and Haynes Manual says to take out the two screws inside the box when you open the tailgate. Done. The lens seems hung up on the right - working on the right tail light. I don't want to break it. The lens is loose but won't pop out. It feels like some tab or something is holding it up not a stuck gasket or anything. Could someone give me a clue please.

Thanks for your help and somewhat embarrassed to ask for such a minor item.

i have to use a small blade screwdriver to assist in getting the tab to pop loose. careful not to chip or crack lens or scratch paint. it will come out. also when you replace the bulb best to put some dielectric grease in the socket especially if it looks like it has started to turn black.

Managed to do it without breaking the lens. Of course the old bulb that I had in the parts bin wasn't the right one. Sort of wondered on the way to the parts store if having the manual, a wrench to take out the screws, the old bulb and some die electric grease would be enough to convince a police officer to not write me an equipment ticket. Didn't get stopped so that's an unanswered question.

Glad to know this as I need to replace the lens on my 03 Screw. It's cracked and there is condensation inside that I don't want to have lead to bigger electrical problems.

I assumed that like my 07 Ranger, there was a screw on the side but alas the clip seems to be the ticket!

Skunk,

There were plastic point jobberdos on the outboard side that helped align the setup when I was putting it back in. If I had rocked it around to get it out I could have broken them off. I think they also are what keeps the rig lined up. Be cautious about what you do to get it out.
