What has everyone been using that will do the job of killing dandys and other weeds? There are so many out there. I want something that will kill them so they won't return anymore.

I have used Trimec Plus in the past. This year I switched the Ortho Weed B Gone Max due to it was on sale and a larger quantity than Trimec. Both did well on the dandelions. As some of the previous posts mentioned, Fall is the best time to apply but either products listed have worked in the spring and summer when they popped up.

There is no magic potion that will kill your weeds forever. There will always be a weed or two in your yard.

I'm not sure why the weeds are so bad this year, other than maybe the warm temperatures early this spring allowed more seeds to germinate before the flower stage, where most would only be a plant at this stage and then killed with herbicides before they flowered?

Anyways, I use Momentum. Muleshack mentioned it in another thread. Tom2727 and a couple of othr guys use it.

I know last year there was a Bayer Advanced that promoted a year long weed suppressant, but I haven't heard or seen it yet this year.

As long as there is weed seeds in the dirt you will see weeds. Keeping them at bay has to do with timing of herbicide applications.

With dandilions, almost any herbicide with 2,4D will take care of it. I've had good luck with Ortho and Trimec. Momentum is a great herbicide is you have other weed issues like clover and creeping charlie.

When is the best time to spray the weeds? I read that some of them is waterproof after an hour. How long do I have to wait before kids and dogs can play on the grass?

Its best to read the label of the product you are applying for proper application rates and re-entry periods. Each product is labeled in accordance with the EPA and should provide that information.

As far as timing goes, in a "normal" year we always wait until 2nd or 3rd week in May to start spraying, that way all or most of the broad leaf has emerged. You can only kill a broad leaf after it has sprung up above ground. Spray too early and you miss some and then you have weeds thru the summer. I would rather spray later and catch more of them.

With that said, this year I am starting later this week with the liquid apps.

Does anyone have experience with the Fertilome Weed Free Zone? I just recently bought some and have only just recently applied. I used Momentum in the past, however I do not need a gallon of it. I have very few weeds and only spot spray. The last jug I had sat around for years. I would like to find a similar performing product in a smaller quantity that is more readily available that going to JD Landscapes. Thoughts on Fertilome, or alternatives?

As reported I bought a gallon of Momentum last year and I was satisfied with the results. I believe it cost around $95. I have also used the fertilizer that has the Dimension product in it and I am extremely satisfied with those results. Crab grass is under enough control that I can spot kill it with a blow torch later in the summer.

As for something that will eliminate all the weeds forever? Maybe sea water or napalm. You may be able to get some surplus Agent Orange that will clear things up for a couple years at least. Just make sure that you have someone else apply it.

I picked up a weed b gone a couple weeks ago and used it on sunday. I went to check today and the dandys died quick. The other unwanted weeds are still there. I think I might have to use more. Once the dandy's are dead, do I leave them in the ground or pull them out? I'm guessing they will just rot to dirt.
