Age question

Fish to Win

Recommended Posts

I was going to say no, but wasn't sure, and now I am curious. I found a couple quotes regarding youth licenses, but so far have not found anything about a MINIMUM age to hunt turkeys.

You could try using the online license purchase system. Enter your son's information and I suppose it should return a list of licenses he can buy.

From the 2011 hunting regs, page 14.

Quote:
Youth age 11 and under may hunt wild turkeys without a firearms

safety certificate if accompanied by a parent or guardian who has a certificate.

I also found this on the top of the application procedure pdf.

Quote:
All youth age 17 and younger by April 18, 2012 can purchase a youth turkey license over the counter to hunt

any single time period A-H beginning March 1, 2012. Youth must select a time period and permit area. Any youth

17 and younger by April 18, 2012 need not apply for the lottery and will be rejected from the lottery.

What type of weapon a crossbow I'd assume but I have a young guy who will be six next year and wondering what weapon I could have him practice with this summer ? He doesn't seem ready as a kindergartner to handle much of a weapon ? Crossbows are pretty spendy, I think I better hold off, but would like to hear how you're working with them and what you are working with weapon wise.

Hunter shot his turkey 2 days before his 7th b-day so it was at the end of his 1st grade year. He shoots a youth model semi auto 20 gauge. We practice with low base shells. He uses the blind frame for a rest. The gun has a red dot scope on for him. When it comes time to hunt I put one shell in for safety reasons.
