i saw a review of spincast reels in in-fisherman a few years back and they said the daiwa silvercast was the best. i think they are around 25-30 bucks.

i went through my share of zebco 33s back in the day for catfish. dont think they are made as good as they used to be.

the SO is still using a 33 i gifted her about 15 years ago. i keep saying i am gonna replace it with a silvercast but the old 33 wont die. grin

I tried the Daiwa when they said they were the best. Not very satisfied with it. The older Zebcos with single pin line pick up were a problem, but the duel pin isn't. Zebco used to be made in the U.S now in China. I'd go with the Zebco 33 all metal-cost is $25 at Wally world. I don't think there is a spincast reel made in the U.S anymore.

just picked up this combo "Lews" from big store this am, i think its the big stores brand. 50% off, trying to get away from bass fishin with spincast reels this year, personally hate it...hope its a good deal & good brand, it was highly recommended

FYI i was looking at a Quantum reg $110 (on sale now @ $80) the guy said this combo unit was a much better deal, the reel iss supposed to be $120 alone? i think

Lew's makes good reels, on par with Revos or a Shimano. It'll take some practice to get the hang of it (I recommend starting with heavier lures that don't catch much wind, and then work your way to lighter and lighter lures). Good luck, and don't get too frustrated.
