Pizza Dough

Recommended Posts

Someone told me that Trader Joe's sells pizza dough balls.

I've never verified this though.

Trader Joes does sell dough balls and they are pretty good. They are something like $1 or $1.25 for 1 ball big enough for a large pizza. You can usually find them in or near the cheese section.

We've used them numerous times and always been happy. They work really well if you like to grill pizza since the crust holds together really well and is firm enough to not sag between the grill grates. They also freeze well, just pull it out and toss it in the fridge a day or two before you want to use it and then pull it out and let it warm up to room temps for 30 minutes before making your pizza.

You can buy a case of pizza dough balls (frozen) from Sam's club. It's at the front concession stand where they sell Hotdogs and Pizza. I believe it's less than $18 for a case of 20. I take them out of the freezer, let them thaw and rise, split them in 2, re-form a ball and let them rise some more. This size (split in half) is perfect for hand tossed cooked on a pizza stone. If you prefer pan pizza, just put a whole dough ball in the pan, cover, and let it rise until it fills the pan.
