Lowrance gets a similar lakemaster chip

200 what dollars? If so that's ridiculous. I haven't heard pricing nut isupposed to be 650 lakes in 1 or 3 ft contours including low and rainy. I did see some pics of the detail and it blows away any chip that lakemaster ever produced and I love lakemaster.

$230 wouldn't be that bad if you fish more than one state (assuming they are accurate as Lakemaster).

Exactly.

Also consider that you would need to purchase another chip for LOW and Rainy if you use Lakemaster.

Price wise it appears to be right in line, plus you get the added convenience of only having to deal with one card.

The new Lake Insight HD US Inland Waters map card is available now and the price is $99.00.

It has 650+ lakes in High Definition in multiple states, and Lake Of The Woods and Rainy Lake are included on the map card. There is no more need for Lowrance users to buy separate cards for each state and for Lake Of The Woods (that was the way LakeMaster built and sold map cards).

The new card works in HDS and HDS Gen2 units (SD card format). A version of the card in microSD format is coming for Elite and Mark units.

You can check out the new map card at Lowrance Lake Insight HD US Inland Waters / Great Lakes Map Card at Pro Fishing Supply. We already have a few of them in stock and ready to ship right now smile

For Rainy Lake - does it include the Canadian side of the lake?

Not sure. It sounds like this card is LakeMaster data, put out for sale now by Lowrance instead of LakeMaster / Johnson Outdoors / Humminbird. If so, I think it would be all of Rainy except for the few bays on the Canadian side that weren't already mapped.

So it sounds like this new chip is only compatible with the HDS units? So the previous lowrance units will not work, (at least for now) with the new insight chip?

That's definitely a good deal if its $99 and the 2012 version mentioned on lowrance site. I will be buying one. Perchjerker you have them ready to ship now? I desperately want the low mapping because I don't have that today. Can you confirm this is lake master maps?

I think you can see the map contours on the LMS and LCX units that can take a 2GB card, but not get the 3D shaded relief features on those older units. I am not positive on this and have not tried it myself, but was told that by someone who should know ...... fwiw.

We have a few of the cards available now.

These are the new 2012 cards? From what I could tell, they said it would be available in March, with the other chip (shaded relief) avaialable in May.

I want to make sure I am getting the latest chipset before I order anything.

Thanks. Also, your reply you indicated "Lakemaster" data, but that is the only place I have seen it referenced. Is this truly the case?

I have had better luck with the Lakemaster accuracy than Navionics and was hoping this new offering was leveraging that, but I have not been able to confirm it anywhere else.

CaptainMusky --- I don't know how many times or how many ways I have to say it --- the Lake Insight HD US Inland Water card came out last week and we have a few of them left .... 1/2 of the ones we got last week are gone already.

The description we're using on our HSOforum was provided to us ...... we didn't write it, we're using what we were given by our vendors.

I have not used the new card yet so I don't have any personal experience or observations on it. I won't use one until I get my boat in the water this spring.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Dave. I'll be looking for one later this spring/summer.

Thanks PJ. It was a duh moment on my part. The fact that you had a chip PERIOD would prove this is the "new" chip. Lowrance didnt offer a "Chip" before, but you could get your gps loaded. I was somehow thinking these were possibly old.

I have placed an order. Looking forward to trying it out.

Not that its your deal at all, but I looked at the list of lakes and there were some that I normally fish not listed at all on there. Thought that was odd, but maybe just an oversight and they are actually on there, but just not listed.

I looked at the Insight list for a few lakes I fish, some that are on the most recent LM cards, and some that are not on the LM cards. The handful of lakes that I checked match up with the latest LM cards. Hopefully the new Insight map card is as good or better than the LM cards smile

I counted the HD lake numbers and it appears there are about 250 MN HD lakes on the Lowrance chip that just came out. I believe the newest HB has over 300, not sure how many the v. 7.1 lowrance lakemaster had, but believe it was in the 270's.

Just checked, v. 7.1 has 284 lakes, so it has about 30 more than the new Lowrance chip.

Yeah, I am sure there will be hit and miss on some, but the lakes I fish the most that were HD are HD according to the list I had found.

The big benefit is this has LOW and Rainy on it. I didnt have a LOW chip and needed one, so this AT WORST will be my LOW chip, but I am confident it will be as good (well better actually) than the LakeMaster chip I have since it is NOT 7.1.
