Tecumseh power head seems loose.

Mike Stark

Question

Since I have mounted my auger to the front of my snowmobile it seems like the power head is loose. There seems to be a lot of movement where the power head attaches to the drill unit. The bolt that attaches the power head to the drill unit is tight.

Is there something that might have come loose?

Thanks.

Mike

mine is like that too.

i took it out for the first time last season and noticed it...

couldn't remember if it was always like that or if it's normal or not, but i think i posted something on here or read a post that said there is a certain amount of play between the head and the bit.

either way, mine drills fine and straight so i haven't been worried.

strikemaster mag2000 10 inch with a chipper, btw.

I was recently at strikemaster and the tech said he noticed there was a little wiggle in between the drill and the head and he said there shouldn't really be any so he put in a washer so there wouldn't be as much play.

Is the power head supported ? Or does it just hang off the end of the auger while it is mounted on the snowmobile ? The shaft on the power head is harder than the metal on the auger. It could be causing the metal on the auger to wear or stretch some. Remove the power head and check it out. You will probably be able to feel it.
