I use the castrating bands. You can get a bag of 100 for like .99 at fleet farm or your run of the mill co-op.

To apply the bands, I use a funnel. works slick.

I use a self vulcanizing tape. There is no adhesive, it just sticks to itself. I think it is called Monkey or Gorilla tape. It is in the electrical department of the major box stores. I like it because there is no sticky residue.

It is called Tommy Tape.

I put masking tape on the rod cork to protect it, and then use electrical tape to tape the reel on.

Electrical tape for me. I generally never worry about the residue left behind so I don't put a base on.

I use electrical zip ties and then electrical tape.

Hockey tape works great. No residue like electrical tape, its more comfortable,warmer to the touch and best of all you can customize your rod handle to your liking. Many different colors and designs of hockey tape out there.

One good zip tie criss-crossed over itelf with electrical tape over the top. You do end up with a small bulge, but if strategically placed, you wont' even notice it.

I used to use hockey tape and that was ok.

But I switched to Horse Wrap several years ago.

By far the best thing I have found.

Easy to put on, wont damaged the cork, no residue, bonds to itself, feels great in the hand and its dirt cheap!

Oh and lots of colors to choose from.
