I am cursed.

I've been out on the ice only twice this year. Between school and work I have zero time for anything. First time I go out, I tear my canvas on my clam and crack the heck out of my flasher handle. On the way off the lake I see a permanent floating in some open water across the lake. Today while I was out there a four wheeler went through. I had taken my "little" out fishing (kid who I mentor through Big Brother Big Sister). He was begging me to drill some holes the whole way out there. He's 14 so I figure he can handle it. I had supervised him before and he did well. So I drill the first one and everything is working great. I let him drill a few and I notice he is stopping mid hole as he's drilling. When he finishes I tell him not to do that and just keep the throttle steady. He says it's the auger and not him stopping. Sure enough, when I kick down the throttle, the blade stops completely, but the engine stays running. I also noticed a bit of whirling noise after I let off the throttle, and the blade continues to spin slowly when it's running without pushing the throttle. It's a brand new Solo Lazer Mag. I am devastated right now. I have so many expenses and school it's just all stacking up. I haven't caught a walleye since the lakes froze. I try to do something nice and take the kid fishing and now this? Does anyone know what might be wrong with my auger? Anyone know how to lift a curse?

You have a nice story and think positive. It wasn't your perm that was floating and it's not your wheeler on he bottom of a lake.

Unfortunately that is sometimes how life goes.

Like they say "that which does not kill us makes us stronger".

I actually enjoy overcoming adversity.

It sure is not always easy though.

If your auger is new like you said it should be covered under warranty.

Strikemaster has great customer service.

Hang in there.

Your Idle may be set too high and that makes the blades spin a little. Mine does that on my Lazer, no worries.

Hopefully you're keeping your head about you when you have this kid with you so he does learn to take things in stride. The others are right--life happens, roll with it. Take a break from it too if things are going poorly and you're not having fun. There's plenty of other stuff to do.

Others are right. You've got to roll with the punches. I think we'd all feel cursed if all we did was focus on the bad stuff that happens everyday.

It really doesns't sound like you have it all that bad anways. You have a job in a terrible economy. You're in school which should allow you to get a better job someday. YOu have a brand new auger to play with (so what it needs a litlte work, if you don't want it send it over my way i'd be glad to stop drilling holes by hand.) You got out to do a little fishing, how is that ever bad? You got to spend time with someone who appreciates you being there for him. And it wasn't your house or wheeler falling through the ice.

Life is all about perspective. The trick is keeping things in their proper place.

Sounds like a typical day on the lake for me. Just remember someone always has it worse. Two young guys lost their life a couple days ago.

I won't rip on you for venting though sometimes it needs to be done and this can be a good place since we have all been there before. By the way nice work on being a mentor for someone!

Bad days build character. We've all had them. One night in my little 2-man w/ a buddy, things were slow till I got my first bite. I set the hook, Fish ON! but I move the rod tip to close to the heater, melted line, Fish OFF! Take out another buckshot, set it on my bucket to tie on, can't see so I reach for the lantern, OW! burned my hand! turn around to stick it down the hole, ahhh. Sit down on the bucket, OW! quickly remember the buckshot I just put there! !@#$%%#. By this time my buddy is laughing so hard, he almost tips the whole porty over. After convincing him that he needs to pull it out. A test of true friendship. Another buddy shows up w/ his 10 y/o daughter and asks "So hows it going?" As you guessed it I get to relive the tale and admiration of my skill. When all the laughter subsides. We get back to fishing. The only one to catch anything is the kid. That was years ago and I can now look back at it and laugh. So keep in mind when things seem to go from bad to worse, They can also get better just as fast. (watching a kid out fish you isn't really a bad thing, and yes she still comes with and often does better than us). Just remember your not really having a bad day, your just creating stories and building character.

If it makes you feel any better a few years ago i busted open my chin/neck walking back from spearing, ice chisel slid and cut me open needed 21 stitches to fix me up, the chisel was close to hitting my jugular, that was after not seeing any fish all day and having my one jigging rod freeze up on me to. Its not a curse things just happen sometimes.

I was just at Strikemaster yesterday. They were great! Fixed our 2 augers while we waited. The damage was only $50 and took about 45 minutes. Worth the wait for us since it takes 40 min to get there from where I live.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
