What type of bait fish is this?

I had this guy in my minnow bucket. Does anyone know what type of bait fish it is?

I don't know of anyone that specifically uses mud minnows for any species. More often than not they accidentally end up mixed in with fatheads.

on the lake i grew up on in the grand rapids area, almost every time i kept a northern there were a few mudminnows in their bellies. i remember one 30"er had about a dozen. always little ones though, like 3-4". i've tried them on a jig for eyes and northerns on the same lake and they worked about the same as fatheads or rainbows.

Mud Minnow. They work great for walleyes and northerns.

We had a few of those in our minnows once. We didn't know what kind of fish it was. We kept it as a pet for awhile until it died. Good to know what it is.
