I have very good news about the High Def maps for LOW on the Mobile Navionics App. I sent Navionics a question why the North chip had the HD contours for LOW, but the Mobile application did not. Here is their response.

Todd,

Thank you for contacting Navionics. The Navionics Mobile application is a combination of both the Marine database and the HotMaps freshwater database. There are some areas that are duplicated on both types of charts such as Lake of the Woods. Currently the default view is the Marine database. This is going to be changed this month. Unfortunately I do not have a specific time-frame but at the end of the month, beginning of next month reload the map for the area and please advise me if you do not see this change.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

I was shown this app by my cousin a while ago, If it has LOW and N. MN, I wonder what volume of lakes it has around Ely? How small of a lake will it show and does it have lakes within the BWCAW? That would be huge since the Sportsman's Connection books do not show those lakes.

I have the original Navionics Android app. on my EVO 4G, works great.

Is there any value in dropping the cash on this updated version? Simply having an HD map doesn't make it seem worthwhile to me. If the lake maps are updated with more current depths/markers/etc, then it might make sense.

Thanks!

If you have an Android phone, search the Marketplace for a free app called "ShootMe". It's not available for all phones, but give it a shot.

Basically you shake your phone, it takes a picture of whatever is on your screen, and then you can upload the picture wherever you want.

I have the U.S. North one I downloaded this summer, I liked it. But I lost my phone, and it wasn't available on the market anymore (and I shot them an email, they said I couldn't get it back even though I payed for it). So I bought the USA one, I like the layout and look a little better but it doesn't show the depths at all! I have to click on the contour lines and then it'll tell me. It's a hassle. My phone is a Nexus S. Thankfully the US North became re-available for me to download, so that's the one I use now over the newer USA one. Why would you make a lake map and have the depths not readily visible??

So I downloaded USA Navionics for my DroidX today, I only had 15 min. to get a refund so I looked at Burntside. I know a few of you were talking about HD maps, did I download the wrong version? It showed hardly any definition, like 20' intervals or more. I got a refund but maybe I was using it wrong or had the wrong version.... any ideas? I can't afford a GPS and chip so would love it if the maps were in more detail.

Once the App is downloaded, you can download areas of interest for more detail. Also, in the settings make sure you turn off Map Overlay so it will show the depths and and some areas of structure.

Check out this link. It lists all of the lakes that are available. Very few are actually in HD. The ones high lighted in red are HD.

I wouldn't day "very few" are in HD, rather "a small percentage" are in HD. I counted 50 lakes in HD from A-C, and that still leaves D-Z. You do pass by a lot of lakes that are not, but that simply means there are thousands of lakes, with hundreds of them in HD!!! What's not to like for that kind of money?

I recently downloaded the app for my droid incredible, when I go search lakes everything works ok. But last weeekend I was at Mille Lacs, I saved a spot, and now when I go to favorites and the spot I saved it comes up with the blue pin but it is on a blank blue screen? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks, Troy
