redhooks
I shot a spruce grouse this fall and would like to get it mounted but don't want to spend the 300-400$ Ive been quoted. Anybody know anyone who mounts birds for less? Thanks,
Dave S
There is occasionally a course offered in Rochester for people to do their own work. My niece mounted a duck and it turned out amazingly well. I don't recall the program it was through. Maybe the Community College?
harvey lee
You might look for a taxidermist who is just starting out.The quality of the work may not be to the quality of the top notch dude but you might save a few dollars.Hopefully the guy on the cheap can give you a good product in return. NoWiser
If you are willing to drive up to the south metro, I've got the guy for you. He did a grouse for me last year, and it turned out absolutely awesome. His prices are cheap, but his work absolutely does not reflect what you pay. It's top notch. His passion is grouse hunting, so he knows the birds well. I think he had a sprucie or two down there last time I was over. I've had about 8 or 9 fish done by him, a grouse, a shoulder mount, and he is currently doing another shoulder mount for me. Very pleased. Shoot me an email [email protected] if you want more info. I'm guessing you would be looking in the $200-$250 range most likely.

TylerS
Man...I hope you can find that diamond in the rough. I've been burned by "cheap" taxidermy before. Took me a few mounts, but I finally figured out that, sometimes, you really do get what you pay for. I look at it as an investment in artwork: for something to really stand the test of time, a reasonable amount of investment needs to be placed into it. The few mounts that I really believe turned out excellent certainly weren't cheap, but I feel I definitely received what I paid for.Hope you find a reputable place to get your spruce grouse done up! Good luck!
