Confidence Decoys

Recommended Posts

Anybody use them? Herons, gulls, cranes, swans, crows, coots? I've never used them before, I don't know if they give ducks credit for being too smart or I'm too jaded or what. Some people count sleeper and feeding ducks and goose decoys when you duck hunt, and if that's the case I've used those, but I couldn't see forking over some money for a plastic heron or something.

Anybody try them? If so, did you see a difference?

I have thought about getting some ghg high lookers and painting them all white for swans. Some times late in the year we hunt around alot of swans, and setting a couple swans about 40 yards off the side of the spread might help? Atleast help with visibility

Scott I have used them many times. A guy I hunt with always buys stuff like that and so we always try it out and I really can say that I have noticed a difference with or without them in the spread.

Only one time did I think It worked but then I only ran 3 goose decoys and two of the heron decoys on the river and the geese actually swung over thos heron decoys each time before thay would turn to lock up but I have never had that happen again and I have trid several times in the same spot so I'm thinking it may have just been a wind direction thing.

Your best confidence "decoy" is being 100% hidden!

Plus one. Being confident that you're in a place where the ducks want to be is way more important. How many of us have had ducks come in when we're out in the decoys??

On honker hunts I use a special silo decoys that looks like a kid throwing bread. Tons of confidence when mister goose comes into 8 dozen dakotas and what looks like three kids throwing stale bread.
