Vexilar... Wow!

For the kind of money we spend on our flasher units... whether it be a Marcum or Vexilar or Hummingbird.. it's too bad that every year we have to hear about bad switches, dead or faulty transducers, units needing to be re-aligned or recalibrated due to motor issues... etc...

I'm glad they all stand behind their products.. but buying a $500-$600 dollar piece of high end equipment shouldn't be like trying your luck and hoping that you get one of the "good ones".

We are spoiled as most of these companies are local and so getting immediate service from them is quite possible without much down time.. but imagine if you lived in upper east coast or Canada or some place like that and had to be without your gear for a while because of a $2 switch or a problematic transducer.

My Humminbird authorized repair shop is a five minute walk away. Had my ice 55 fixed on warranty in two days and I live in Canada. That is one of the reasons I bought a bird. There is no Marcum shop and they have to be sent away for repairs. Vexilar is probably the same.

I had a problem with my cord that comes out of the flasher for the charger on my fl-22. I called vex and talked to Matt and in less than 24 hours I had the new cord with connectors at my door and installed (I live 100 miles from the cities). GREAT people to work with.

Took my Fl20 into Vexilar for a tune-up and they spent an hour cleaning it, fixing a board level bug, explaining a number of performance tips and all they charged me for was a reconditioned transducer that I got at a 50% discount. Nice to see customer service is still alive! Love my Vex!

If you worked in the manufacturing field you would understand. There is absolutely no way to make something exactly the same way each time. Whether you make ten, ten thousand, ten million, or ten billion parts, there will always be a percentage (hopefully small) that gets through and goes bad. Most manufacturers seek a goal of 1 part per million being bad, but we know it is highly unlikely unless everything goes perfect. And the more parts you add to an assembly the chances one of those parts will go bad go up. There are so many variables when talking about high production, even the slightest change in temperature while manufacturing a part could send a whole batch to be bad a year down the road. Everyone who has never experienced this needs to get it through their head that machines make errors also.

Do you expect your vehicle to run even 100,000 miles without having to replace a part or two?

Just be thankful these companies are willing to step up and take responsibility for their products. Not passing it on to the consumer and blaming them.

Any ice fisherman knows our equipment gets handled a little rough. Some more than others. They go for rough rides across the lake in a truck or bounce along behind an ATV or snowmobile and at temps usually well below freezing. I am surprised we don't have more trouble with our equipment. I have an FL-8 that is 10 years old and works like new. Only had to buy a new battery for it two years ago.

Ditto with Vexilar's Customer Service. I was unzipping my fishing partner's bag to get his brand new fl18 set up and his charger went right down the hole, boy did I feel bad, not sure why he brought it with out on the ice. So I wanted to get him the exact same charger that came with it and I could not find one. I called up Vexilar and told them what happen and I wanted to buy a new charger, well they gave it to me and actually shipped it to my cousin in Indiana. Now that is SERVICE!

I had a switch go bad on my 2010 model FL-12. The rep told me it was a switch issue and they were typically $65 bucks to fix. I asked if it was under warranty and they said "we don't warranty broken parts." In my opinion it wasn't "broken" it was defective, as it was broken right out of the box. I couldn't convince them otherwise so $65 bucks it was. The guy might have been having a bad day but for my next flasher I am seriously considering marcum.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago. Took it into Vexilar they asked me to wait a few minutes, replaced the switch on the spot, and sent me on my way with a smile. It's that kind of service that builds loyalty to a product.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
