Here's my take... I think Jay is missing the point. Discarding deer carcasses on public land gives all hunters a bad reputation. The poster said it was near a major road. I'd call the CO. I've been pheasant hunting before on a WMA and run into discarded carcasses and didn't appreciate it, especially when my dog rolled in it, and I'm a fellow hunter. Discarding carcasses on public land has no place.

I'm missing no point, its illegal and I wrote put it IN THE WOODS, NOT OFF TRAIL...put it where nobody would be see it or be walking/hunting (including not by the road)! What point am I missing? I'm sure you would call the C.O let's hope nobody called trooper on you the next time you speed, use your cell in the car etc. Like I said its easy for people to point fingers. a bad reputation...who you trying to impress, anybody in the woods that time of year is a hunter anyway. Have fun hauling your gut pile out, no difference! I assume you bring a [PoorWordUsage] bag when hunting, I've stepped in dog $@%& hunting too, didn't appreciate that either (not sure but most cities its illegal not to pick up you r dogs [PoorWordUsage] smile...

Ps dog p--p is poor word usage that's funny smile

One can put the carcass in the woods and it could end up on the trail anyways as yote could drag it there.

Not trying to argue or say anyone is right or wrong. I just do not see why it is a big deal.

I would agree that there is no reason to throw it on anothers land but some people will do whatever no matter what the law is. At least the animals can make use of it.

Dumping a carcass is probably not the biggest deal in the world but it is still against the law. I know some people pick and choose which laws they want to follow and thats up to them.

But the reason for the law seems clear to me, lets imagine for a minute that it was legal to dump carcasses on public land. We know there are 500,000 hunters out in the woods during the deer season. Lets say half of them are successful, thats 250,000 deer killed, and maybe half of those deer are killed and disposed of on public land. That means there are now 125,000 deer carcasses sitting on public land with the vast majority of them being near roadways, trails, and easily accessible areas where people are going to come across them.

I know these numbers probably aren't accurate but I think it gets to the point that this is a numbers game. One or two carcasses are not a huge deal, thousands upon thousands of carcasses are a big deal and thats likely what we'd have if dumping was legal.
