Question

I have a 2000w genarator that is two years old it run flawlessly the first two years now I took it off the shelf put new fuel in and it started right up BUT it surges instead of running smooth. I can hold the linkage and it will run smooth but when I let go it starts surging again, any thoughts

I had the same problem and it was a partially plugged jet. Seafoam helped a bit but didnt fix it. There is a plug on the bottom of the carb that you can unscrew and clean the jet with a very small wire, follow up with a squirt of carb cleaner. On mine this fix worked great and only took a few minutes. I changed the oil too since I was in there digging around.

mine did that and determined it was low on oil and had to tip it 45 degrees and put oil in then cap the reservoir and set it back down. It is a cheap generator from northern tool..

How are the cheap generators? I know Hondas are the way to go, but man its tough swallowing that 1K+ price tag. I'm thinking more along the lines of needing power in the woods to build something like a deer stand, vs needing something really quiet to run near a wheelhouse on the ice.
