Probably been asked a million times, but what are you shooting? I just got into muzzy hunting last year. I bought a gun, dry box filled with everything I needed, a case the whole shooting match. I have shot two deer with it a doe and a buck and so far I am not pleased with the entry or exit hole. I didnt have a bllod trail at all with either one. I am shooting knight 240 grain jacketed hollow point. I am looking for something that is gonna open and give me some blood. Any suggestions??

Try something heavier. I've had good luck with Powerbelts and T/C Maxi Hunters, but I use at least 300 gr. bullets.

I just started to Muzzler loader hunt 2 seasons ago. In that time I have harvested 1 buck and 2 does. 2 of those deer dropped about 20ft from where they were shot. The buck went maybe 30 yards. The entrance and exit holes on all deer were not very large. The exit wound was a bit larger than the entrance hole.

One deer that ran had spray out from the exit side on the weeds on the ground. The others just about fell after going a few feet and I never looked for any blood.

I shoot the Thompson/Center Shock Wave 250 grain Spire pt bullets. There could be numerous bullets out there that preform better but I am very satisfied with thier performance in my gun and the damage to the inside of the deer.

Granted, only 3 shot but they were all hit hard. I like no tracking.

The doe I shot this am almost fell in its tracks. I hit it right behind the front shoulder about half way up the chest cavity and the heart and lungs were mince meat. I do not think that doe what hit it.

Shot a frinds CVA Optima 50 Cal and fell it love with it. Liked it so much that me an my father in law each picked on up this past weekend as they were on sale for $219.00. I almost always fill my tag with the bow before the gun season ever starts. If I haven't for some reason the high power rifle solves the issue. Now that we have areas like 601 with unlimited doe tags and intensive harvest areas I am thinking this would be a cool way to sit in the stand late season with something other than the bow. I will not be taking this muzzy into the field this year as I am too green to feel confident with this new piece of equipment. After all the research I have done, I am planning on starting with the Powerbelt 270 grain platinum aero tips with two pyrodex pellets (100 grains of powder?) I don't plan on ever taking a shot over 100 yards so if this combo works in this gun (meaning I can get accurate groups at 100 yards). Being so new, and not having a clue what I am doing, would anyone be willing to share if they have used a bullet of this type with type of powder charge as far as effectiveness? Also, open to any other tips or suggestions anyone is willing to share. Thanks, Pikeguy.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
