WISCONSIN Permits Due This Friday!

**Greetings, turkey hunting enthusiasts!**

Don't forget that SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10th, 2011 is the deadline to submit your application for the 2012 spring turkey permit drawing.

Applications for the permit drawing cost $3 and may be purchased at all authorized license agents, through the Online Licensing Center on the DNR HSOforum, at Wisconsin DNR Service Centers, or by calling toll-free 1-877-LICENSE (1-877-945-4236). Applications postmarked after the December 10 deadline, or those which have been filled out incorrectly, will not be considered for the drawing. The drawing for permits will take place in late January or early February. Successful permit applicants can expect to receive a postcard by mid-February. All applicants may also check their drawing status online through the Online Licensing Center on the DNR HSOforum starting in mid-February.

NEW for the 2012 Spring Turkey Season: the six time periods of the regular turkey season will run for 7 days each instead of 5 days. See a full listing of the spring 2012 turkey season dates at http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/hunt/seasdate.htm.

All turkey hunters are reminded that in-person turkey registration stations are no longer available in Wisconsin. Turkeys can be registered either via telephone at 1-888-HUNT-WIS or online at http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/hunt/Turkey/register.htm. These registration systems were in implemented with the Fall 2011 turkey season, and offer hunters a more convenient method of registering their turkey.

More information is available on the DNR’s Wild Turkey webpage or by seeing today's issue of the DNR Weekly News.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and happy hunting!

I have access to some great property in the Ellsworth area. (Zone 4)

Last year I bought a late season surplus tag as I did not apply.

Any words of wisdom for a first time non resident applicant?

Is there any realistic chance of getting drawn or any stratagy to increase my odds. I am open to any season.

I appreciate your advice.

Any words of wisdom for a first time non resident applicant?

As a LONG time non-resident hunter in Wisconsin I can tell you, you will NEVER draw for one of the two earliest seasons. All those tags go to residents and non-resident land owners.

The earliest you can hope to draw will be the time period that includes the first Satuday in May. (usually the third time period) That is the WS fishing opener. After that, you will draw for any of the time periods you choose to hunt. If you wish to go afield with two or more tags in your pocket, apply for one of the last two periods, as there are always plenty of left over tags available.

Thoughts on the 7 day seasons?

I think dang few ever hunted more than just 2 or 3 days anyway. I know I can't take off any more time from work than I've done in the past. For me, probably stick with the Wed - Sun. Doubt anyone will notice a difference.

If there IS an issue, it will be the people out "scouting" the weekend before their opener Monday morning. That could certainly affect those hunting the final couple days of their earlier season. (Guess I'm assuming the seasons run Mon-Sun?)

What are the odds of non-res finding places to hunt? I'm interested in trying to hunt WI to get some more turkey season in, but I would be going in blind the first year. I have zero connections to WI.

DO they exist throughout the state like their zones or are the spread out proportionately similar to MN as you head further north?

Don you are correct=the first two season are out for us out of state non land owners.but with the late spring last year I scored on my Wisc. bird the Saturday of the fishing opener....so I will be appying for the same time this year as well.

Minnesota=I always try and get an earlier season....because I CAN WAIT TOO HUNT THEM LONGBEARDS !

Putting in my permits this week. Nice to have more then one tag in your pocket in WI. I'm arleady out of birds from last year so I need to stock them up again.

WI is a good place to get land for hunting. Most farmers hate the birds and want someone out there hunting them. If you talk to 4 famers I bet you get permission on 3 of the farms. That is the one bonus of having more then one season.
