First Fish of the Season!

Went out on a shallow windblocked lake by trimont yesterday. Had 3inches of ice and caught alot of little perch, with a few nice ones mixed in.

First fish of the season.

Very skinny 12in perch.

I wouldn't be overly concerned with 3" of clear ice - especially with a chisel, a pfd handy, and a buddy w/ rope...three forms of insurance. To each there own though...looks like a fun day on the ice to me.

This by no means scientific what so ever but here goes.Think about a single ice cube from your refrigerator.Small,about 2by1 inch piece of solid clear ice.A 300 pound man can stand on said ice cube without it crushing right?As Mr smarter than a fifth grader would say"there's your sign!"lol lol Good luck catching and don't fall in.c63

Too dangerous of an analogy to let stand c,63. Crushing force and load-bearing capacity are unrelated. The same could be said about a 300lb. man on a 1X2 inch piece of window pane glass. Care to bet on the results if said 300lb. man stands on a 10'X10' piece of window glass?

I'm jealous. I'll go out on 2" of clear ice, as long as no one comes anywhere close to me. If it's clear, you can "read" the ice. I mean that by walking slowly and looking for the little air bubbles.
