I use snaps on all of my poles.I all ready riged up my two walleye poles and my two perch/panfish poles. The walleye poles are two medium power poles and they have a buckshot rattle spoon and lindy slick jig. The perch/panfish poles are the dead stick and a light power pole and they have a copper spoon and a perch color rapala jigging rap. my friend waits until he is out on the ice to rig up his poles while i am all ready catching fish. if i need to i can change lures easily.

I do not use swivels or snaps for panfish or on deadstick-type rigs with minnows. I like to keep those rigs small, light, and simple.

I do use snap swivels when fishing jigging spoons or jigging Rapalas for walleye and sauger. Snap swivels make changing lures much quicker, which is important when the fish are being picky as walleye often are, and I don't think a swivel adds enough weight or size to those presentations to matter.

Heck my boat aint even put away yet! I won't get too excited tilI see an inch of ice. My portable is ready as it was when I put it away last spring. Auger had the oil changed last spring also. Just needs a fresh plug and gas. Rods/reels get new line the night before there is at least 3" of ice. No need to be tempted to get out any earlier!

As for the snap swivel thing, I don't like using them as I can't exactly control the action of the jig or spoon.

Been tinkering around with it since the beginning of October, stripped the old line off all the rods, gonna wait until night before D-Day to restring them. Tackle boxes all organized, reels greased and cleaned. Now just have clean up the auger and house and call it good. CAN'T WAIT!!
