Dave
OK, is this the type of mixer where I can pull out the valve guts and get a new one? (NO laughing at my soldering....was 21 years ago )
Redlantern
Looks like a Moen tub/shower valve. Cartridges for them are available at Menards, Home Depot and most hardware stores. Might be a bit of a challenge taking the old one out but it can be done. Do you have a valve stem puller? Probably rather obvious but make sure the water is turned off before pulling it. Probably at your meter would be the best place. Also, drain off any water out of your piping system before pulling it.
Archerysniper
Yeah what he said, sometimes you might have to heat the valve body up a little if it is stuck.
WallEYES
Dave....Looks like a moen posi- temp cartridge...They run around 30-40 clams....when you get the new cartridge there should be a plastic type cover over the end that you can use as a tool to remove the old cartridge....just use a pliers and wiggle left to right till cartridge removes from the body
delcecchi
Isn't moen guaranteed for life. so maybe they will send new cartridge free? Check their web site.
Dave
Isn't moen guaranteed for life. so maybe they will send new cartridge free? Check their web site. I will call anyhow but, I did read..."is applicable only to faucets purchased after December, 1995 and shall be effective from the date of purchase as shown on purchaser's receipt." Now, if I could only find the receipt Yea, right. Plus, I think I built that bath in '92.
delcecchi
I guess that means my old one from the 80's isn't covered either.
Dave
I held off on this but it started dripping more so, I dove into it yesterday finally. Had to use a cartridge puller. Once the cartridge was out, piece a cake. I wasn't happy about $35 for a cartidge though. No more drip, drip, drip now Thanks for the help! Archerysniper
$35 isn't bad to keep Momma from nagging and getting on the water sooner.I have installed 35 Lennard 7400 shower valves this week and wished they were all as easy as a moen. Any little chunk of grit from the old lines and they wouldn't work had to take them all apart multiple times till they would work properly.
