One of my lakers...mystery revealed.

Recommended Posts

I found this spud about two years ago. I've looked at it many a times...wondering what was inside. With some rocks, it's very unclear what "might be" there. The rock weighed approx. 12 ounces prior to cutting. I realize some might shirk at the idea of cutting a rock like this, but I have no desire to ever part with this one, so after much studying, I decided to go for it. I had to know!! The rock shop in Beaver Bay is a great place to get your stones cut. The cost for cutting this one was about $2.00. The owners are really nice people and very knowledgeable about rocks/agates. I've always left there feeling like they are up front and honest folk who can tell you all about your rock(s), and will offer you a fair price should you be looking to sell. The owner encouraged me NOT to cut it as it drives down value but.....I had to know!!! I posed the rock cut side not shown in the first image. The first image was taken in some soft shadowy light. For the cut side showing image, I placed the rock in direct evening light to enhance the colors. Even after the rock was cut, and with the quartz inclusion, I was offered $100 for it, which I politely turned down without much thought....I would have never guessed that the insides would look so beautiful! The two cut faces showing side by side is great eye candy smile

Regards and happy hunting out there...

Shawn Zierman.

wow nice one. To cut or not to cut is a hard question. I can enjoy both, but really this one is much better appreciated cut! What a nice stone. 12 oz is a great size too. The market price for an agate you found will never be fair. Beautiful Agate> $100=any day.

I've seen some really nice looking slabs that were tumbled. I have one good candidate for that.....but I just kinda cringe at the thought of slicing a big laker up.

I am working on a face polish but it was too messed up to leave it.
