Lost my Springer

Boss Hogg

Recommended Posts

Had to put my springer to sleep two days ago. She was with me for 16 1/2 years. We never hunted, but I never went fishing without, ever. Both in the boat or ice shack. It was always just she and I. Right now it feels like someone ripped the insides out of me. I want to get another springer, but don't know where to start. Does anyone know where to find some pups???

Boss, you are going through the pain none of us ever want to face. But we do. We do it because the joy our dogs bring us is worth it-the price we pay for their adorattion and love and companionship is we have to say good bye to them too soon. We all know it when we bring that four footed pal home but when the time comes the fact we knew this day would come does not dim the pain.

The Great Spirit has ordained that man's life span will be many times that of his dogs. Perhaps we should understand that means we will know the pleasure of many dogs and they will all enjoy the good life we provide for them in turn.

I can name all my long gone friends and tell you many tales of their adventures, personal quirks and the happiness they enjoyed and shared with us. I miss them all today, fifty years and more after they were with me. They really haven't gone.

Take your time with a new puppy.

16 1/2 years old?! I'm truly sorry for your loss, but that has to be one of the most fulfilled lives of a dog I've ever heard of. Take comfort in all those years of memories! You must have more stories to tell than you'd be able to get through in a week. I bet it was some pooch, too!

I can relate to the feeling. I had to put my first springer down in March. She was 14. Now am facing putting my second one down soon. He is 13. It is never any fun but, all you can do is remember the times you have with them. My sympathese to you my springer loving friend.

I think you may have contacted me at Blue River Kennel not too long ago. Or it was a nice guy with the same story. Sorry about the dog. That is always amazing just how long the longevity of a springer can be. My last one I had to say good bye to was 14 and still hunted like she was 2. People still called her a puppy when they saw her. But cancer slowed her down quickly. I hope you find a nice dog to start some new memories with. Take care, Ken.
