Hammertime
Brought my pup out grouse hunting this weekend, I just got her back from 2 months of training. She pointed 1 bird that I missed (heavy cover/hard shot). Anyhow, I prefer to pheasant hunt but I have more access to grouse grounds near our cabin. I have a beeper collar with the options of beeping while on point, etc. I used the locate button a few times to find out where she was. I used the beeper a few times when I could see her and before we went out, and she gets startled by it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the dog used to this other than continuing to expose her to it?
rundrave
you could try to cover the beeper with some tape so its not as loud. You may want to try to work your dog on some planted birds to get her used to it. Other wise just try to incorporate it in every day life and do it randomly, like you said just do what you can to keep exposing her to it.good luck
Farley
My GWP didnt know what to make of the beeps the first time or two. Now it doesnt bother him, and he knows the difference when it beeps when he's running\on point and when I'm looking for him.
Acemac
just beep it all the time around him. My dog got in the habit of coming when I hit the locate button and even though this kind of erks me it saved my but a few time last weekend when she ws no place to be found. 870Express
Cotton ball in beeper and duct tape over it. Run the beeper when they're eating, in the kennel, etc. They'll get used to it but it may drive you nuts.
