Guest
I've got a question for the Gill-Chasers.Do any of you pick Goldenrod Grubs for bait? Or, do you use commercial Grubs? When I was a kid we used to drive out to just about any open field and pick grocery bags full of Goldenrods that had the obvious buldge in the stem where the Grub had set up housekeeping for the winter. We'd sit in the basement with our Scout knives and cut the stems open, pick out the little round Grubs and put them in cornmeal until we headed out to ice fish. We'd string 3-4 of them on an Ice Ant and the Gills would just go nuts for them!I'll never forget sitting in that old Brown shack on Tonka and sight-fishing for those fat Sunnies. We'd get an occasional school of Crappies as a bonus sometimes as well.As for Corn, we used it in the summer, never in the winter, but it may work. Heck someone on this site met a guy on Tonka recently that was using a Chicken McNugget!I know Corn can work on Trout sometimes too.------------------Chells

Scott Steil
I just use Waxworms. Call me lazy but that takes a lot of time to pick Goldenrods Recently I have been experimenting with PRO-CURE scents. I have been adding some scent to my panfish jigs as an experiment. I am really starting to beleive in scent in the winter. This weekend I will conclude my testing. I will keep you posted, but so far the big bulls really seem to prefer the scent. Scott Steil
I don't know if PRO-CURE is available on the site or not. But, it should be. I have several I have been using. I have been using one of the Garlic scents and I think it works. I also tried the shiner scent for perch/walleye. I will let you know after this weekend if it really made a difference. I have been fishing one with, one without and marking the rod with the scent. I am trying to avoid getting any scent on the hooks of the rods without. It has been very interested and I am getting excited about this stuff. I will keep you posted. I will also check with Rick to see if he is planning on selling it through the site. So far, very impressive!
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted February 6, 2003 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted February 6, 2003 We have several Pro Staff in the testing phase of Pro-Cure Scents. We already have some very powerful endorsements from anglers who have always said scent is worthless. Now they swear by it.When our testing is done and we find it's the real deal, it will be offered hear and we'll let you know all about it. Right Scott? Bobb-o
Tried goldenrod grubs one time when my buddy from Iowa brought them up with him. I dont think they did that much better than waxies. Scott whata flavor is this scent? and is it sold on the site or do you get it from Cabela's or something. I was thinking of trying my powerbait scent next time i went out
Deitz Dittrich
I too have been playing with scents this winter. Fish have a very strong scent gland, I dont remember the numbers but was told that a fish "smells" much better than a dog... and a dog much better than us.With this being known, as water gets colder it gets more dense(spelling?) and actually helps the fish to be able to "smell" better. Many of us use scent in the summer but not in the winter, just seems silly!I'm with you guys.. I think it works!
Scott Steil
Come on now, I never said scent was worthless I used to use it when Shad Raps first came out. I have never used it for anything besides trolling cranks. However, I am excited about the fact that gills seem to be responding to it. Only time will tell but I like what I am seeing so far. protrapper
You can use the white fat of bacon for blugills in the winter my uncle showed me this when I was a kid. It works great, smell, and its tough and stays on the hook well. In fact I just saw Tony Dean wrote an article about it on his web site.Thats my ten cents my two cents is free. Scott Steil
Bacon fat, I thought that was my trick! I keep a little in a zip lock. I believe it makes a difference. However, the PRO-CURE scent has been very impressive. Much better the the bacon fat so far and it stays on the jig better.
steve schmidt
I know for a fact that panfish have good "sniffers". One day while looking down the hole I saw a fish f rt and the rest scattered! Reminds me of my stepbrother!!!
Gordon Fothergill
When you go into shallow mud covered bays and you see all the bubbles coming up, that is from all the bluegills spooking and farting as they leave! He He
