So I stumbled across another lake in my town... Its not on lakefinder or anything I believe. It has a 38ft hole, and tons of weedline all the way around. It is full of northerns from the mississippi, which has an outlet to the river which runs under hwy 61. It has a crappy state public landing but the fish are big. I got to get out fishing it yesterday and only caught northerns!! This lake has a tiny inlet stream, where trout actually come into this lake. I used a rainbow trout colored mepps and had quite a few takers so Im guessing that the trout are a good food source for them aswell. Im soooo excited to get my permenant out there this year and see how well I do, reports from my friends down here says there are quite a few 20+lb fish caught in it every year!!! I personally only saw a 30incher yesterday when I went but looked really fat n healthy so thats good news coming into the spear season.

I talked to the land owner who owns 2/3 of the property around this lake and he said the water is crystal clear in the spring. As of yesterday the clarity was 5ft, but thats because of the weather lately but Im figureing it will be very clear this year. Cant the hard water season start sooner?

If anyone wants to come down this year let me know Ill be out quite a bit and should have an open seat all the time, gonna probably put out 2 perm portables this year on it! Single and a double.

44.025679,-91.601901 here's the cordinates its mos def a wierd shaped lake, its not a natural lake I dont think. Check out the street view to see the landing.

Probably not a joke he's just giving a invite for us to come down. Heck we openly write which lakes were spearing and invite anyone who wants to come out. Were allot different then the open water or ice fishing crew theirs always a open seat or invite when were spearing.

If I can get away from good old fish lake I might call you up and give it a try sounds like fun. + we need to find some where for spear fest 2012 yet.

I think it looks like were going to be alot more mobile this year. Toughest part is going to be cramming it all into a couple months!

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
