FLW Oahe

After two qualifying days Hanson is leading on the co-angler side and will be one of ten fishing for all the finest meats and cheeses in all the land (Sportscenter reference smile ) in tomorrow's finale.

There are some big guns on the pro side so with any luck he'll get paired with one if them tomorrow and bring home the trophy and the check. cool

I just got back from there, not lucky enough to make the cut. Chris has a great chance of taking home the trophy if the fish are there. The good thing for Chris and Chase is that Keith K (who is in second place) is fishing the same area (trees) with the same presentation. I hope it's not to windy today because Chase's boat is missing the passenger side of the windshield! One more thing, I don't know if the secret is going to come out after the tournament or not but what their team is using right now is so far off the realm of "normal" walleye fishing it will make everyone scratch their head and wonder how they came up with that.

I spend 6 days out there and have never caught so many fish in my life. It is crazy right now, 3lb smallys, cats, sheeps, carp, perch, monster pike (I got a few over 35") and about a gazzilion 14 1/2" walleyes. Oh yea, and a few 28"+ fish thrown in for good measure. A healthy fishery for sure.

Are you going to tell us what tactic they were using now? wink

Um, no. I am sworn to secrecy by Gary Parsons and am not going to be the one to put it on the internet becasue I will be fishing with/against these guys next month at the FLW Championship in Bismark next month. They also have an AIM Championship to fish on that same body of water in a couple of weeks and I'm sure they want to use it there.

What I will tell you is that they where fishing THRU the trees, relatively weedless. In 18-35' of water on the downscan these trees looked like an xray of a tomato plant this time of year. You could see the branches of the trees and a dozen large white blobs in each tree. During the daylight these fish where reluctant to come out of the trees and chase baits, but these guys figured out how to go in and get them at 2MPH.

In the two tree groves around the lower end of Oahe, right now you could put on a divers suit and probably pick a couple thousand dollars worth of Flickershads, Reef Runners, Deep Husky Jerks and jigs our of the trees. If you do, can you bring mine back to me. cry

Nice job Chris, does it make up for the year?

Ummmm... yeah! Not even worried about not making the Championship now, although I made a heck of a run at it. Ended up 49th in the standings. Can't wait for next year!

They let me keep the BIG check! LOL!

The winning technique will be released next year on the TV show "The Next Bite". KK said on his facebook page that they just finished taping and episode for the tv show that will explain their presentation. I have a feeling that it will be a high placing presentation at the AIM championship event in a few weeks as well as the FLW championship on the river at Bismark in three weeks.

Trees and rivers, who would have thunk you could fish in the middle of them without jigging.

I have a pretty good idea what they were doing based on bits and pieces of intel that I've collected from people there and elsewhere.

It's a different ballgame on the Missouri south of Bismarck than it was last weekend so it'll be interesting to see if they can get the fish to go there using that technique without some modifications.

They sure have created a buzz about it in the fishing community. Smart move on their part, but I don't understand why they don't air it within the month while it's still fresh in our minds? I bet you would see a huge increase in viewership if you did!

Anyways I'm interested in what they were doing as well! I have some stumpy areas that I only bobber fish. It would sure be nice to be able to troll through these areas and find the productive side of the flat!

Becasue they have two championship tournaments to fish this month, and don't want their competition to use what they have.

Second, if they air it in say, Novemver, open water fishing is over and people will forget about it, and The Next Bite isn't airing right now anyways, it's on it's off season break.

What they are doing is not earth shattering and there are no secret parts to it, it's just putting a different lure with a different presentation in front of fish that have never seen it before. You can go to Fleet Farm or wherever and get exactly what they are using.

I understand- in fact, I didn't even know they were in the off season right now anyways. Just curious why they do what they do- thanks for the insight! Still can't wait for it to be revealed. I would watch open water fishing shows year round, I can't, however, watch ice fishing shows in the summer. Figure that one out!

This is kind of funny because normally I'm on the outside looking in. But in this case, I fished with Chase using the technique. I know the speed, depth, amount of line required, lures, what they were looking for on their depthfinders, etc, etc... but I sure as heck am not talking about it. Once its made public by the Next Bite crew (or next month when the FLW episode airs), I'll be happy to add my experience but not until then.

My Fleet Farm was out of the lures as well. frown Stopping at Cabelas tomorrow. I'll pull them this weekend if I can find some but the lake I'll be fishing is nothing like a Dakota reservoir so there will be other ways to accomplish what I want to do. Just curious if something will eat it in a different situation.

I did some research on some differnet lakes mentioned and tournaments on them and how people fished them and found some very cool info. Now that I see others doing some stuff we dont do around here I may have to try it. I have 1 lake with lots of wood that I may try this new info out on. If it works it sure will make life easier and I wont lose so many reefrunners and shad raps and flicker shads. Im glad flicker shads came out because Shad Rap prices are going down because of them. wink

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
