"Free" Trigger X Sample.. Scam? Phishing?

So how many of you instead of getting a "free sample" instead got and email recently saying "due to overwhelming response we have run out" and instead now if you order $15 worth of Trigger X you can send in for a Free T-Shirt?

Personally I think Rapala has hit a new low.. I think this whole "free sample" was just a phishing scam to get emails for their mailing list. Can anyone debunk this, have you gotten your samples? If not. I'm will be emailing Rapala to 1) Call them out on their scam 2) Have my email removed from their listing and 3) never order a rapala product ever again

I got the same email, no sample for me either....sorry guys, I posted the free sample giveaway on here originally. Hopefully Rapala actually had a good amount of sample that they gave away, and hopefully they aren't selling our info to anyone.

I got suckered into this, too. I requested that they remove me from all future emails. (I doubt this will happen though. At least I gave them an email address that I only use for this type of promotion.)

No sample here either, it is a pretty low trick on the part of a Company the size of Rapala to not honor an offer they made. I certainly hope they do ot sell our information.

At this point I will never buy a Trigger X product.

There were a handful of replies to the original TriggerX sample alert thread from guys who did actually get free samples. I didn't get one.

I don't think it's a scam, I just think it was poor planning on the part of Rapala's marketing folks. They could have allocated more product, or made it very explicit that they were giving X number of free samples away. They could even have had a counter on the page showing approximately how many of those samples were left.

I backed off buying Rapala products (for the most part) quite a while ago. I think they're great, and they certainly catch fish, but I don't think the price is justified.

Also: I would've been a lot more impressed by a "Sorry, our execution was off on this one" email (that just left it at that) than I was by a pretty sorry attempt to get me to buy their product. If I want to advertise your stuff for you, I can figure out to do it all by myself, thanks.

Same here. I can't justify paying $17 for a stinkin' crankbait. Well, I can, but only if it's for muskies.

Yeah, I'm a sucker.

I, too, did not receive my free sample, but if I remember correctly, I think they left themselves an "out" in the small print in that offer. Yep, now Im supposed to buy more product to do free advertising for them. I think a "Buy one get one free"offer might have been easier to take. Guess nothing is really free. Is there a Shipping and Handling fee for the "FREE" shirt?

I got mine.

Rapala will not miss a few disgruntled customers that did not get their free sample.

They had overwhelming demand, I am sure they gave away thousands of samples.

Frankly the triggerX stuff does not come in alot of things I would use.

The tubes are Ok, The Big Moe Lizards are good. Not much use for any of the other stuff.

Also to those complaining about being on an email list, just mark it as spam.

Or use the "unsubcribe" link in the email. Being a reputable company, I think Rapala would abide by a request like that. (At least, I hope they do, because I used the link. grin )

Well I'm glad it's not a scam then.. but still it's Rapala.. they should have either known better and been more prepared.. or cut the promo sooner when they realized that it was out of control.. i too like others used an alt email that i only use for android market and other useless emails i need to sign up for but dont need spammed to my normal email.
