Hunter crushes catcher!

If you didn't see it, it was not for the faint of heart. WOW! I was impressed that there was very little whining from Chi, it was a clean play...but brutal! Kinda ironic for chicago is that their manager was that kind of player, if you block the plate you get run over. So he probably appreciated it.

It was pretty sweet, but I expect there'll be a payback shot somewhere in the not too distant future. That's alright, as long as it's a clean play too, no high flying spikes or takeout slides well beyond reach of second base. I thought it was kind of funny how nobody in the dugout really congratulated him on the play very much, but they all kind of had little half smiles, like "yes we got those guys". It was the kind of toughness I think we need a little more of, not a lot, just a little. You're right to Ozzie was definitely that type of player, not dirty, just played hard.

The Hunter hit on Jamie Ellis is just what the Twins needed. It was a clean play, it's part of baseball, and it sent a message to Chicago that the Twins are still a superior team.
I realize Hunter stepped on the far left side of the basepath to take him out, and heard Ellis' remarks about it in the dugout as he was wired for the game. But this ain't NCAA Softball. They call it Hardball for a reason. And in the dog days of summer, hardball gets physical. Just check out the Red Sox/Yankees series. Or the Angels/Rangers batting practice brawl from the other night. The White Sox are a competitive team and the Twins needed to send a message. Even Ozzie Guillen said if that was his team, he would have been "hi fiving his players just like they were." A great play that will make a huge difference. Let's hope they bust out the brooms this afternoon and sweep the southsiders right back to the ghetto gutter.
Aside; how about Guzman's back-to-back 3 hit nights?

IFallsRon -

Are you kidding me a cheap hit? Since when does a catcher get to sit on the plate WITHOUT the ball and not get hit...

Even Ozzie Guillen said it was a good play. You must be a whitesux fan!

Tori Hunter, the one man gang! He's not only bowling over catchers ala Pete Rose, he's hitting home runs and low and behold, today he turned into Superman! I got home from work just in time to see him come flying through the air, from out of camera range, and take a for sure extra base hit, away from the Sox in the 10th inning..it'll be on the sports highlights tonight, for sure! Go Twins!!!!

I was a catcher for as many years as I can remember. From the get-go we're taught that if there is even the most remote possibility of a play at the plate, it's our job to block it, that means stand your ground and take a hit. If you can't handle that go bowling. (Nothing against bowling, I rather enjoy bowling) On the other hand, as a base runner coming home, it's your job to score. Looks to me like we had 2 professionals doing their job. Dirty??? I don't think so. More like good sound play hard or go home baseball to me. Let's not forget that these are 2 teams in a tight race for a division title. Every run counts. Sox got their payback. They plunked Koskie 4 times in 2 games. Welcome to baseball. GO TWINS!!!!!!
