Tigers win!! Twins lose!!

Whew! Got kinda worried there after that 7-1 drubbing my Tigers took Thursday...but my original prediction of taking 3 of 4 from the Twinkies still could happen with last night's 5-3 Tiger win. I know, a sweep was certainly wishful thinking...but I know you guys can empathize with a guy whose suffered with his Tigers and Lions "bringing up the rear the last few years".
The Red Wings have been the one consistent Detroit team, since the 90's (when Mike Illitch bought them). It took some time and some coaching changes (Demers, Murray, then Bowman and now Lewis)...now that Illitch has bought the Tigers (and built them a new stadium), you're seeing him divert funds into developing a team that will contend in the near future. I just wish that the Ford Family would sell the Lions (to Mike Illitch!), so they can become a contender. The Fords were happy with them finishing last, as long as they continued to sell out games, why spend the money? Well, after they moved into Ford Field...they need more money, so now they have to win and you're seeing the developement there...with all the new faces and tremendous talent assembled over the last 2 years. They're gonna be good this year and GRRRRRREAT!! next year!

Oh well, 'nuff said. It's game time! Go Tigers!! grin.gif

One step closer to my original prediction...3 of 4 from the Twins!
At worst, we (the Tigers) walk away with a split...but we'll win tomorrow wink.gif. White Sox win. Indians lose.
You know, probably the biggest surprise is the great value in acquiring Carlos Guillen. What an amazing season he's putting together. And his range at short stop is totally a surprise!
I think he's as valuable an addition as Pudge was...too bad Rondell White, Fernando Vina, Craig Monroe and Brandon Inge are hurt. They would have made a difference in several close losses recently...oh well, that's baseball.

Season series is tied at 6-6 (til tomorrow wink.gif). Good to know that the Twins no longer dominate the Tigers...what a difference a season makes!

"Talk to us after the upcoming 3 game series against the Yankees and the 4 game series against the Twins. Then we'll see what the team is really made of."

...Tigers will take 3 of 4 from the Twins!

---------------------------

...and it happens!

The Tigers take 2 of 3 from the Yankees and 3 of 4 from the Twinkies...Jason Johnson (11 k's and 1 walk, complete game shutout!) outpitches Johan Santana!!!

What did I tell ya? ...and after the All- Star break the Tigers will eventually climb into 1st place (by middle of August), when their injured players return (i.e; Vina, Inge, Sanchez, Monroe and White).

How's it feel?
My god, you guys must be so embarrassed!
Let's hear your complaints about the Twins performance...or were they just out-pitched, out-fielded and out-hit by the Tigers!

And it doesn't end there...you're in for a big surprise when the football season starts and the Lions sweep the Vikings and win the division!! Woo-hoooo!!!!

What do they call you guys? Oh yeah..."the nay-sayers"... grin.gif

I recomend some strong medication for you. Lions will not win 8 games, the roar has not yet been restored. The tigers will not be over .500, as for the pistons, they put together a great season and you should be proud of them. friendly

May i also remind you that the tigers have the worse bullpen, era and defense in the league! Give them time, they will rollover just as fast as those cars that rolled out of the motorcity with firestone tires! They will screw up, didnt they only have 41 wins last year? one off from tying the major league record? Twins have no worries from detroit, it will come down the white sox and the twins, Magglio is a superstar, as is garcia, this will be a battle between tc and the sox, detroit wont make .500 this year.

Second team batting average means nothing, runs scored, on base percentage, slugging percentage are more.

Didnt last year detroit only have 1 man go to all star game?

the best offense is good defense, which they dont have.

Tigers will do as well the movie 8 mile did in the theaters, third at best!

The only thing good to come out detroit is KISS

Just got back from the game this afternoon. Both Santana and Johnson were dealin' it today. A lot of first-pitch strikes all day. A dandy pitchers duel.

The Tigers have a great nucleus of young pitching, but probably need another year or maybe two to really get to contender level. That young pitching is going to be a little bit too inconsistent for them to hang in contention all year this year...but they will be very, very good in a couple of years.

By the end of this year, it will be the Twins and the White Sox down to the wire. Look for Cleveland and Detroit to join the fray next year...

AHHH, Life is Good.
I want to thank all the Tiger fans out there for poundin' on those evil Twinkies. At the All-Star Break my beloved are in first place with two games in hand and two less in the loss column. The Tigers can beat up on the Twinkies anytime in my book. YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD.....YES. Go Sox. Curt

Man, you need to do some homework and get your facts straight (or don't bother arguing with me!).
Click on this link:
http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/mlb_sortable_team_stats.jsp

The Tigers are tied for 4th in the Major leagues in both Slugging Percentage and Runs Scored.
The Tigers are 5th in the Major Leagues in O.B.P.

...as far as pitching goes, you're wrong again! They aren't the worst, there are 4 teams worse (I'm not too proud of that...), but still, they have pitched as many shut-outs as the Twins - 5!
Their bullpen isn't great...but it also isn't the worst...there are 10 bullpens that are worse.

Now as for the defense...they are the worst!, but that's changing all the time.

Grab shotgun.....
Walk outside.....
Shoot Crow......
Insert crow in mouth.....

Once again...ONE SERIES DOES NOT A SEASON MAKE!!!

Twins, Sox, down to the wire....Detroit and the Tribe will battle it out for 3rd.

Backherup get a clue and calm down. The tigers aren't that good. The twins aren't playing the best right now but I highly doubt that the tigers will win the division. The twinkies will turn it on at the end and win it once again.

If I was a Detroit fan, I think I'd stick to basketball for the next couple of years. Give Detroit their due this weekend, but I don't think they'll be there down the stretch.

Just thought I would take this time to commemorate one of the greatest moments in White Sox/Tigers history. I remember 25 years ago today I was at Sox park with a Rod Stewart disco record in hand and saw the largest crowd of all time at the ole park, 71,000 fans and helped put an end to disco forever with Steve Dahl and Disco Demolition. Tiger fans will remember the day as they were given a game 9-0 and didn't even have to play. The Sox were going nowhere fast, I think they were 11 games out of 1st at that point so it was more of a moment than just a baseball game. I was sitting down the first base side and I have to admit that I was one of the insane coho lips army that ran onto the field though I was long gone when Chicago's finest showed up with riot gear. Now today I look back as a 45 year old successful businessman and chuckle a bit over the indescretions of youth. Anybody else out there remember? Thoughts?

Hey Windy,

Holy **** was the disco demolition insane or what...25 year anniversary, wow time flies. my brother and sister brought me to the game (I was 10)...I brought Kool and the Gang to blow up. Unfortunately, I was hauled away shortly after the explosion and ensuing riot - by my goodie-two-shoes sister. is Steve Dahl still on the air down there??? Was that a Loop event?

Funny thing is, I spent a bit of time working for the St. Paul Saints (owned by Mike Vecht, son of Bill)...and re-introduced the idea of a disco-demo...more a rap demolition in my minds-eye, but noooo way were they going to touch it. They did whoopi cushions instead.

Couple of other fond memories at Chomisky...when Harry almost fell out of the booth during the stretch...jimmy persol (sp)had him by the belt and you could see harry floundering to regain his balance/composure...a few too many that night...I've also saw him almost fall out of the box going for foul balls with his fishing net...also, we used to park across the highway, near the Robert Taylor (?) projects cuz the parking is free - that is if your car is there when you returned - happened to my dad twice, before he coughed up the 10 bones to park nearby. And nothing beat the shower in center on hot and humid days like today. And what about Nancy Fousts (the organ player), she still around?

Good day to you Windy and take care,
Pete

I don't know if I would be crowing too loudly about being in first place by a half a game when the mighty Pale Hose have three games in hand on the Twinkies. Did anybody catch Mr. Buerhle's pitching gem tonight or was it outshown by the offensive juggernaut that swept into Cleveland. YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD....YES. GO SOX
