The Tigers 6th win in a row puts them 5 games out of first!! 2 games under .500!! Better than last years' (World Series Champion) Florida Marlins, at this same time last year...Alan Trammell will win "Manager of the Year"...

Well,
Considering the last 6 wins came against the Diamondbacks and the Indians.....
Preceded by 5 straight losses against NY and the Royals.....

Talk to us after the upcomming 3 game series against the Yankees and the 4 game series against the Twins. Then we'll see what the team is really made of.

Well, me boy...Tigers take 2 of 3 from the Yankees and scored 22 runs doing it to continue leading the majors in hitting...
Tigers will take 3 of 4 from the Twins! (I hope!!) grin.gif

P.S: How many Tigers are going to the All-Star Game? 2 (Ivan Rodriguez and Carlos Guillen)...
How many Twins are going? 1 - Joe Nathan (the guy nobody in MN heard of or wanted!)

Alan Trammel manager of the year???? I think Alan Trammel should be manger most grateful to the GM for not firing him for 119 losses and spending $$ on I-ROD etc of the year. I think as of 7/7, Tony La Russa deserves Manger of the Year.

What planet are you from?

What are you talking about?
Pudge is leading the Majors in batting average and All-Star votes...not to mention top 10 in RBI's and Slugging percentage!

He's been invaluable in the clubhouse (according to vets Bobby Higginson and Dmitri Young). He's also got the pitching staff believing they can beat anyone...case in point...2 out of 3 in New York.
He's worth every penny he's paid. Just look at the increased revenue (i.e; jerseys, etc.) and consistent sellouts and increased tickets sales. The Tigers sold 8,000 more season tickets the day he was signed to a Tigers contract!!! Get your facts straight...

You don't pay a guy and fire him after one season when he inherited someone else's team. It's obvious Trammell's making great strides having been able to convince Tigers management to get the guys he wanted/needed. The 6 players he brought in (Ivan Rodriguez, Carlos Guillen, Fernando Vina, Rondell White, and pitchers Jason Johnson, and Nate Robertson), this year have turned this team into a contender ("can you say 6.5 games out of first place?"). Last year (at this same time) they were already 30 (or more!) games out of first place!

After the series against the Twins, the Tigers may only be 2.5 games out!!

Thursday/ Maroth beats Mulholland
Friday/ Knotts beats Silva
Saturday/ Robertson beats Radke
Sunday/ Johnson beats Santana!!!

I'am from the same planet that saw the Twins tame the tigers and Alan trammel in 87' , 4 games to 1. I'am also from the same planet that knows the All-Star game is a popularity contest and that Uggie Urbania is going to the Cubs before the trade deadline. Bet on it.

Backherup
Maybe we should backher up to a year ago to remind you of the 18 or 19 some odd games in a row the twins beat the tigers. The twins also went on to another central division title. Law of averages says the tigers couldn't be that bad every year, but lets not put the bubbly on ice for them just yet. The twins have been beat up all year and they are still in first.
Twins swept by the tigers in a four game series at the door.....I'd have a better chance catching a 59" muskie, 47" northern, and a 34" walleye on back to back to back casts!
But a little optimism isn't a bad thing, so stay positive.

Backerup,
If the twins don't win the division, (which I believe they will) I would like to see the tigers do it. As far as your prediction, I don't know what is going to happen, but I can tell you one thing...
Santanna cannot and will not be beaten right now.

Let me jump in here,

I am a die hard Twins fan but backerup has reason to be very optimistic, it was a brilliant move to bring Ivan to Detroit, I don't know if it was a desperation move after last seasons misery, but I do know that something needed to be done to turn this sandlot team around.
Look at the numbers, Detroit is leading the league in batting, this folks is not a fluke, the only thing holding Detroit back is their pitching which has left something to be desired to this point. If and when it all comes together for them watchout Twins fans, we could have a team on our tail that nobody thought would even have a winning record this season. I am looking forward to the upcoming series with Detroit and I will be heading to the game on Friday. Anyone else gonna be there?
If Detroit keeps up the pace there is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that Trammel will win manager of the year, Larusa's team is having a great year but if you polled the general baseball audience as to what team is the bigger surprise this year, Cardinals or Detroit, think about it, one of the worst teams in history to actually having a chance of legitimatly competing for the penant! Just ask Joe Torre how good Detroit is this year! But there is a lot of seaon left and anyting cam happen.

So with that being said, I still think the twins are gonna kick their a** at the dome and win the division (again)!

I think the Tigers are a much improved team. Could they be any worse? The point is that if they didn't make moves and spend some $$, 'somebodies would be out of a job.
As far as the Tigers in a pennant race, I don't see it. As a Twins fan, the team the scares me with young talent is the Tribe.I would not be surprised at all if they finish ahead of the the Sox this year and become the Twins future rival in the Central, if not overtake the Twinkies. The Tigers simply have too many teams in front of them, Sox and Tribe along with 4-5 other teams from the east and west to get the wild card. We all know that hitting doesn't always get it done, but pitching is the key. You simply are not going to score 7-8-9 runs a game.
I see the tigers taming Mulholand tonight, but not Silva, Radke or the major league strkieout king , Black Magic- supernatural , Johann Santanna.

A few more reasons why the tigers are not a contending team; they may have the best hitting team in the majors, but they are also the WORST fielding team in the majors!!
75 or so errors. Take a look at the 7th inning in thursday nights' game. 3-1 twins. Tigers miss several chances at getting out #2 and then miss a golden opportunity at a DP. Guzman takes Maroth to a 3-2 count and then takes him outta the park. 6-1. Game Over.
Also - Pudge is great offensive player. But his age is showing in his defense. 19 of the last 20 steal attempts against him have been successful.
Offense fills the seats. Pitching and defense win championships.

One win down, three to go!!

Of the 4 games, this one scared me the most with MOLDholland starting.

Silva, Radke, Santana....I see a sweep a'commin!!

Let's not get too excited. The Twins always seem to win the ones their not supposed to and lose the ones seemingly in the bank.
Let's not get like overly eager Tiger fans and think were going to sweep the Twins!!! My goodness gracious-- that's like having Eddie G throw a 1-2-3 ninth,,, thank the Good Lord we have Nathan!!!!!
Hunter not in the All-Star game is a shame. His defense alone is good for an out or 2 when most CF give up a double or more. Best CF I have ever seen, thou Edmonds at times is amazing.

It appears that someone at the controls knows what they are doing! Eddie G. is gone, but Nathan can really bring it! He has alot of years in front of him yet and he may be a Twin for alot of those years!
A.J. was A-O.K., but Maurer can get it done!

Has anyone heard how Hawkins is doing? What about any of those other players that have hit the trail?

I see that Hocking was released today...no sleep lost on his departure from the twins...lol.

LaTroy was doing well, but has been a little shakey recently. His ERA has gone up since he became the closer and has blown 5 save oppertunities but has only recorded 1 loss. Must be nice to have a good offense behind ya!...lol

What is there to say about Milton and The Gambler? Not much other than Ryan really blew that one...and to think he diddnt even offer him a contract?

Reed retiered with the pirates before even pitching 1 game.

Bobby K is doing so-so. .221 BA with 6 HR and 17 RBI

The Twins will be much better off with Mauer than AJ. Here are the stat comparrisons-
AJ- .304 BA, 7HR, 44RBI, 15(2B), 1(3B), .353OBP
Joe- .327 BA, 6HR, 16RBI, 8(2B), 1(3B), .387OBP.

The difference is that Joe has done this with 98 AB compared to AJ's 253.

Joe, barring injury, will be the best offensive catcher in the AL if not the entire league in a few years. And he's only 21.....

I agree. Joe.M was taken BEFORE Mark Prior of the Cubs. At the time and for the last 2 years I was thinking the Twins may have lost a chance off at least getting to the Series (for sure the year we got beat by the rally monkeys) if we had Prior in the rotation. But now I see things differently, Prior has been a bit shaky, mainly due to injury problems but I see Joe. M holding his own with Prior and overtaking him for overally productivity in the next few years. The Twins in my time have never had a all-around catcher. It was nice too see Joe called the 3 consective shutouts, the kid has got a mind of a 10 year veteran

You sure got that right on Hocking! It used to drive me crazy when he would'nt OCCASSIONALLY swing at the first pitch! Being the kind of hitter he was, I sure did'nt see him creating any kind of advantage for himself, by ALWAYS letting that first pitch go past!
