Dishwasher install/wiring question

Quick question on an outlet for a dishwasher.

Prior dishwasher was hard-wired directly into the fuse panel (separate breaker) however the salesman where we purchased our new one mentioned we'd need to install an outlet now and wire in a plug to the dishwasher. (prior one is removed, and I'll pick up the new one on Wednesday evening)

Looking at the layout of the kitchen, I believe my only two choices would be to either mount it flush with the floor or to mount it right below the kitchen floor (basement laundry room is right below and the ceiling is open) Prior install had the water feeding through a 3" hole down to the shut off in the laundry room along with the discharge hose coming down, across the ceiling of the laundry room and then going back up through a whole into the back of the sink cabinet.

Would I run into any hassel if the outlet was properly mounted on a stud right below the dishwasher and run the plug down through the hole in the floor and connect it that way if the ceiling is left open?

Thanks,

Steve

isn't there any room in the cabinet cutout for a junction box with an outlet?

My only concern would be, you want to have the outlet somewhere it wont get wet if the dishwasher leaks for some reason.

That drain hose sounds like it might have issues too. You want to make sure you have a "high loop" in the drain hose to prevent water from coming back towards the dishwasher.

I'll have to measure how deep it is vs cabinet depth. There might be enough room to sneak one in the backside. Backside of the dishwasher cutout is finished oak in our dining area. Cabinets on both the left and right side.

As for the drain hose, it high loops on the left side of the dishwasher then drops back down below the dishwasher where it then goes below the floor and over.

Guessing the builder of the house at the time used this as a easy solution rather than trying to drill holes and route thru all the cabinets.

Reason for my initial question was also my concern with possible water leak.

The reason for the plug in so that there is a service disconnect within sight of the equipment for working on it.

Why not surface mount or cut it into the wall under the kitchen sink? Having the plug in under the floor MAY be ok, but that would probably depend on who is looking at it. If the hole in the floor was big enough so that you could go downstairs, unplug it and pull the cord upstairs so the repair person can see that it's not plugged in would probably be ok, but putting it under the sink is better.

I'd guess that the dishwasher is either piped into a disposal or a dishwasher tee installed under the sink. If this is the case, you need to keep that "high loop" when you install the new one. The purpose of this is to keep the waste water from the sink from going back into your dishwasher. Dirty water going back onto clean dishes kind of defeats the purpose of a dishwasher.

Received a call that the dishwasher came in 2 days early. I must be getting old when things like that excite me. smile

There was really no easy place to run the wire into an outlet so I ended up hardwiring it like the last one. (and you are correct, it isn't near the sink so trying to sneak it around the corner and over to that outlet under the sink would have been a chore. (the K.I.S.S method worked as usual)

High bend on the discharge right on the unit itself and another one at the sink.... everything hooked up like it should have.

Toughest part was installing it with my 3 yo daughter looking over my shoulder asking me about everything I was doing and what everything was.

BTW.....running the "virgin" load right now, but so far I am impressed with Bosch dishwashers! It's quieter in it's full running mode than the 7 yo whirlpool gold filling ever was! Don't know anyone with a Bosch but I went out on a limb to try something different.

Thanks for the help.
