NFL - Top 5 Passing Trios

SkunkedAgain

Recommended Posts

Quote:
Sporting News Today ranked the best passing trios in the National Football League. According to Iyer the top five passing threesomes in the NFL are:

1. Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark (Indianapolis Colts)

2. Philip Rivers, Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates (San Diego Chargers)

3. Tony Romo, Miles Austin and Jason Witten (Dallas Cowboys)

4. Rodgers, Jennings and Driver (Packers)

5. Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin (Philadelphia Eagles)

Agree or disagree with the rankings? I'm not so sure that I'd rank Romo/Austin/Witten higher than any the Eagles or Packers, but it's a pretty accurate list none-the-less.

I am a huge Packer fan, however, the numbers speak for themselves. These guys are close but Rivers did better AND I would say with less of a complete arsenal considering that Rodgers had Nelson, Jones, and Finley beyond Jennings and Driver. Rivers didn't have much beyond Gates and Vincent:

2010 - Phillip Rivers stats

4,710 passing yards

66% completion rate

30 TDs

13 INTs

101.8 passer rating

2010 - Aaron Rodgers stats

3,922 passing yards

65.7% completion rate

28 TDs

11 INTs

101.2 passer rating

You are correct but how are they really comparing them? by numbers, by talent, by what they think they will do this year? Jackson played 5 games last year and gates played 10 so if they go by numbers then they shouldnt even be on the list besides rivers. I guess i would like to know what they are comparing when they made the list

Tom Brady and whatever 2 guys he wants to throw to.

Your right. The headline does say Passing Trio, but Vick over Brady, come on man...

Brady is three times the passer Vick is, does not matter who he is throwing to.

Did they forget about Brady?

The only thing I can think of, is he spreads his passes out to so many, while the list they have is QBs that target 2 guys mainly. But Brady should be top 2-3 on any QB list right now, if not #1.

I assume that the original author of the list was basing this on how good the trio is, based on stats and potential. Putting Brady on this list would be a sham. Sure he's better than most of the QBs but just doesn't have WRs that are as good as those listed above. That makes Brady even more special, but the Vick trio BELONGS up there because of Maclin and Jackson. Those two receivers are pretty darn good already and have the potential to be amazing. That inflates the trio with Vick as the anchor.

Looking back at the stats, Jackson and Maclin had better years than I thought last year, especially Maclin.

Could debate this list forever.

On a side note, sounds like a deal may be done shortly between the NFL and the players union.

Jackson and Maclin made Vick look a lot better than he is. He just scrambles around until he can chuck it deep. He's got Brent Celek at TE as well.

...and Jerry Rice made Montana look good. You can say that about any QB, but you've got to be good to put it all together.
