Trollmaster

Northlander

Question

Ok I want to put a Trollmaster or Trollmaster Pro on my kicker. Its a 1987 Yamaha 4 stroke 9.9 horse. 1st off can I mount one of these on that kicker and if so wich model # do I need? I cant seem to get on their HSOforum. If anyone has a old dvd of the install or could copy me one I would like to see it.

Also is this what evereyone else is using or is there something better for about the same price? I have a few friends with these and the digitroll, I think its called, and they love them.

Cabelas says yes you can get one and you would need TM201D if you have the standard 9.9 or the TM210D if you have the T9.9. I was looking at these when I bought a kicker. I checked on another site and no one there was having any luck contacting TrollMaster either. What made my decision was the number of people who needed customer service. I bought a Nissan tiller kicker and the nice thing is you can just turn the handle and leave it. It doesnt return to idle like the old ones did. I spose I dont have digital control but if I need to go 1.8 and not 2.0 or 1.6 I will give up and go fish for something else. Good luck

FYI on their web site they state the following

TM201D-YAMAHA MERCURY MARINER 9.9 4 Cycle (1995 to 1999)

I will send you the install doc to see if the carb layout is same as your model.

I would contact them before purchase to make sure if it looks like it will fit

No I didnt get the panther I got both of his e-mails. I will be doing my steering either as a tiller or at the wheel when I hook up my main to the kicker.

I dont know if Im going to get the regular Trollmaster or the II. Anyone have suggestions or another brand thats better? Anyone have "issues" with their Trollmasters?

Thanks to you guys... ( wink ) I'm looking at the Pro2. Like Northlander, my kicker will be tied to my main for steering. I like the Pro2 for the added adjustability the regular pro does not provide. Could be the difference between a nice "sexy" wobble and a plug doing crazy loops behind the ball. With so many different baits and different tuning speeds... I think it's the Pro2 for me.

I just installed a Troll Master II on a friend of mines T8 as payment for letting me borrow his boat. Very simple to do, maybe an hour tops. Read the instructions a few times first and then it's super simple.

What a Troll Master II allows you to do, for those that don't know, is it;

1, allows you to set the speed via a dial with digital readout. That controls a servo connected to the carburator.

2; allows you full control with either the tiller handle or remote, whichever you have.

3; it has a momentary fast idle (about 75% wide open) for corrections or whatever.

4; when you hook a fish, hit the idle button and it returns the motor to idle, allowing you to fight the fish, then hit the button again and it takes you back to your exact preset speed. This is especially helpful in current, when fishing multiple rods or when you have multiple fish on at the same time.

These are slick units, and for under $300 they should be standard equipment for anyone that trolls alot with their kicker.

Used in conjuction with a Terova with Ipilot set on a saved track and you basically have an auto pilot controled boat. Use the kicker for power and the Ipilot for steering and all you have to do is fish.

Yep, going to buy a Pro II tomorrow. After dealing with the inconsistent throttling on mine today, I've had enough. This will definately make life a lot easier with trolling, no doubt, which is about all I do these days.
