Need new trail camera

BLACKJACK

Recommended Posts

Good news is that I got my cameras out yesterday – finally. Bad news is that my last Leaf River puked, the display is going bad, can’t get the date/time set, so now I’m short a camera.

In your opinion, whats the best bang for the buck in cameras right now?? Whats the last one that you’ve bought??

I had luck with my two D-55’s and one D-55IR Moultrie’s last year, was thinking of just getting another D55…. Reliable, good pictures, easy to use. The D55 IR ran all summer long on one set of batteries – but I wasn’t that impressed with the pictures, but the battery life makes up for it, especially at a remote, seldom visited location.

Let me know what trail camera you'd recommend.

bushnell trophy cam hands down, you can get 2010 models on the internet for $135, i've read on other forums people finding 2011's for $160. I also have a cuddeback (expert model) it takes great pictures but not many of them (like 15 a week compared to 300 from the trophy cam) it takes to long to reset after it takes a pic so it misses alot of animals. trophy cam also has a 2 year warranty compared to 6 months from cudde. Have 2 wild game cameras the IR only lasted 1 season and the flash camera is still working, going on i think its 3rd or 4th year.

Ive tried a ton of cameras, I still like the Cuddebacks the best. The triggerspeed is unmatched and the pics are beautiful.... AND now they have a 5 MP infrared!

Honestly I think all the brands are getting better now and more affordable. Better pics, longer battery life, smaller in size, but for overall quality for the price, you cant beat a cuddle IMO.

I have an almost new Moultrie I40 ill sell you for cheap!

I bought a new Moultrie M-80 about 2 months ago. Very happy so far, runs on 8 AA batteries and are supposed to last upto a year. Clear bright pictures. Found it for a 100 bucks on the web. Competes with the trophy cams. Good luck.

The Leupold RCX-2 Digital Trail Camera

features 10.0 MP picture resolution,

45'–90' range, 48 IR LEDs, Video/Audio,

less than one-second trigger.

Runs on eight AA lithium batteries

Camera includes AA battery cartridge tray, hex standoffs, lockdown security plate, and mounting strap

what can I say...it's a Leupold.

There are a lot of new cameras out at a good price points with great features. The problem is their actual field performance is unknown.

I will echo what walleye guy said. If you want a camera that will snap multiple pics of everything that walks by, have excellent battery life and a company that stands behind their product, then get a reconyx.

The other cams way work out, but it's more of a gamble on how they will perform and how long they will last.

I was unhappy with most the cameras I have owned until I bought a Reconyx.

I had a old Cuddyback 3.1 that was ok, took great quality pictures but I alway wondered why I never seen any pic of my dog when I knew he was going out to the food plot from time to time. bought a Reconyx RC60 HO and not only did I see my dog on camera for the first time in 5 years, I also got wolf and every thing else down to the size of a chipmunk and small bird is flight. Now I'm 100% sure if it crosses the direction of camera I will have a picture of it.

The Scout Guard I had (mostly the same as a Bushnell Trophy) was a good camera for the price for someone looking to not drop a fortune or looking at putting out on public land. I just didn't like the red LED flash and thats why I bought the RC60 HO with a invisible flash.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
