Best bass fishing lakes - unknown vs. well known?

I'd like to take a break from looking for big fish, new species, and challenging species, and get back to the basics with a couple 'action' days for bass.

Like usual for me I'd like to try some new lakes, but can't decide where to go.

If you guys had to choose between a lake that doesn't get much pressure, but MIGHT have good bass fishing (or might not), and a well-known lake that has catch-and-release only regs and surely gets fished regularly, what would you choose?

Since I don't get the chance to get out much these days, I would want to know that the lake I am going to has good bass fishing.

If I ever get the opportunity to get out a couple of times a week all summer long, I would absolutely love to put in the time and effort to find a "new" and unknown bass lake

nothing north of hinkley is good

Maybe not up 35, but up 10/371 corridor is some of the finest bass fishing in the state IMO. Geographically, I believe that would be considered north of Hinkley. smile

At any rate, if you're looking for action, I'd go with the popular lake. I think Bass fishing under high-fishing pressure is easier than say, Walleyes. You may have a dynamite day on an un-popular body of water but I like my odds better on a lake where I know they're there. Especially if your opportunities to get out are limited.

Sled is always good for a laugh grin My best bass have come from unknown, hard to access lakes (there aren't any of those north of Hinckley though wink ) I would agree though that if you are looking for action, c&r lakes should work just fine.

I would go to the unknown lakes even if I really want a good day of action, I like to be challenged and step up my skills as a fisherman. Just something pasted down to me from my father, as an old metro bass master, I think that was the thing he fished all his tourneys for.

I would take a quiet small unknown lake any day off the week, no matter what species, or the results. They are usually more work to find and access, harder to figure out from lack of mapping, but often can be very rewarding.

I would rather spend a day searching potholes and finding a new "unknown" than fish a lake like tonka. I plan on doing a bit of that one of these weekends with the canoe. Those lakes rarely have accesses. Usually, if it's easy to get into, it's already too well known.
