Favorite Swivel

Looking for everyone's opinion on which swivel works the best when running a lure that is spinning such as tactics like Slow Death, Lindy rigging, and pulling Spinners.

Though i've had all the gear to use these methods the last several years, i just haven't used them more than maybe once annually. I'd like to challenge myself this week by forcing myself to try these tactics, i know they work for others, and i need to put more tricks in my arsonal. My favorite swivel tends to be a SPRO brand, but i'd like to hear others opinions.

Include swivel sizes if possible.

Thanks,

TW

I tried out the new Insta Swivels and they work very well with spinners.

I have been out approx 6 times using them and they do get the job done and they are clear ta boot.

I do not remember the size and I will have to dig the package out.

Harvey, I did a google search for Insta Swivels and didn't find them, maybe they're just that 'clear' laugh

What brand, and where do you find them - I'm intersted, i know you report quite a bit about pulling spinners and have success doing so.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Maybe it was Invisa?Swivel by Aquateko.

I like the tiny stainless steel bearing SPRO's as they attract less weeds and will not bugger up like a simple ball type will. I also add a drop or two of reel oil in the swivels bag to keep them well lubed. A light duty fish attractant scent oil will accomplish the same result if your concerned with the reel oil scent on the rig.

Another tip when using them on rigs prone to constant spinning, like a Slow Death Rig , is to add a bead or two ahead of the swivel. This acts to deflect weeds that can freeze up a swivel and spin up the line causing line twist.

On rigs fished tightly to the bottom a bead with a slip knot and a bass bullet weight on top works well to deflect problems.

Thanks for the responses. I like SPRO brand because they seem to have a very smooth coating, and that should inturn provide a great swivel or rotation. I'll have to try to find some of the invisa. Harvey, where did you pick those up at? Or did you buy online?

I like to give the rod tip. If i get bit short, or the fish pulls off the hook, then i will start feeding line. Had a perfect example of this wednesday evening. Tap Tap, gave the rod tip, Set the hook, rod bends over, fish shakes head, and fish gone...Time to feed line.

Online Truth.

I usually give the fish the rod tip. I guess it depends on how the fish hits the worm. I alot of times troll with my bail open if the eyes are hitting light and then just let my finger go off the line and let it go back a ft or so.

More times than not, slide the rod tip back and that usually is enough. I don't let too much crawler hang behind the last hook so when it hits, the last hook should be in the fishs mouth.

If the fish are htiing and I am missing the hookset, I usually slow my troll down 2/10th or so.

This moprning I was on the lake for eyes and gills trolling a crawler harness. I was going about 8/10th mph to start and before I was done, I was going 5-6/10ths and the hookset was easy. I was missing way to many fish at the higher speed.

Many times I have found that the change of speed will also help your hookset.

yeah-cheapest on the shelf for me too! NEVER had any problems with them.

I think I've had the same swivel on my rod now for 5 years...actually I can gaurantee that! My extremely light-weight leader line will break way before that swivel does.
