bait lasting?

Recommended Posts

I have a bunch of donuts and sweets frozen some from last year and getting more this year. Any idea how long that stuff will last? I was not drawn this year but would be nice to save it for next year. I hate to turn it away when its offered, be nice to not work so hard last minute to gather. How about grease does that last if kept in in a bucket with lids on it.

Thanks

Doughnuts stored in a bucket with grease will last a lomg time, no doubt till u get drawn again. So much preservittive in it. Just be carefull to not to overfill with grease. to much grease an presure will build an push it out the lid an you will have a mess. I use a staging area, a big tub an let the doughnut soak up all they can then transfer to bucket. I have buckets i know are 3-4 yrs old an its fine. boar

Yeah, I agree with Boar. If you even put just the pastries in a barrel with an air tight lid and get all the air out so it dont mold it to will last indefinate. I do this all the time. (57)

So if frozen would last couple years, ok thanks. Boar how much grease do you put in 5 gal pail would you say you use? Doesn't the top part dry out and go bad if entire bucket not filled up with grease? Do you mash up the donuts or they still shaped and just in the bucket.

Thanks

Yea i got frozen stuff a couple years old too to freezen isnt a big deal, if I dont use the staging tub, I just stuff the doughnut in the bucket, but I dont jam pack it otherwise the grease dosnet make its way to the bottom. Fill up the bucket with doughnuts, push it down an fill up again till its full. Wen I pour grease in the top of the doughnuts is coated with grease so there is no need to fill the bucket up to the top with grease. Ive never really paid attention to how much grease i pour in. im figuring that a five gallon container of grease will take care of 2 buckets of doughnuts an just starting a 3rd if i remember right. you can start out on the conservitive side an if you feel you need to add more u can. but like I say, if it leakes out the lid youve to much. The staging tub works great. garbage can ect. fill it full of doughnuts an grease give it a couple days an then transfere to buckets, the doughnuts have absorbed all the grease they can by then. boar

The grease trick does work well, found a old barrel in the back of the pile that was heavy. (Susposed to be empty barrels) After a short debate about if I really wanted to open the barrel up or not I was amazed to see the grease soaked pastries looked ans smelled fine after who knows just how many years they sat in the weather behind a couple years of empty 55 barrels.
