Tom7227
Has anyone had a sink built as part of a Cambria type countertop? We are thinking of doing this but wonder whether it would hold up or would stain. We are probably going with a darker colored quartz type product from Hanstone. Thanks for your time.Tom
rundrave
we did a black under mount sink with our kitchen remodel this last year and it not only looks awesome it has held up as well.was a little on the pricey side but we were able to get one really big deep sink on one side of the 2 which makes washing big pans etc very easy. In addition any mess or crumbs etc can just easily be wiped directly into the sink which makes clean up a breeze.
PurpleFloyd
We have had them built out of cambria and also fabricate them out of solid surface as well as having concrete countertops fabricated with the sinks formed out of concrete. The quartz sinks will hold up just fine but a few things to consider are:Unless you really want to get into high dollars the sinks will be made of individual pieces that will be seamed together to make the bowl and you will not get the smooth transition from the sides to the bottom like a normal sink so they can be a bit more trouble to keep clean in the corners. The ones I have had done were the farmhouse style. You should not have trouble with anything other than superficial staining as the quartz is non porous. You also need to consider that the sinks made out of quartz are not forgiving on things like glasses and plates which will break and chip much easier than they will with stainless or composite sinks and while the quartz is very durable if it chips the repairs need to be done by professional with an epoxy. Tom7227
We saw some in a display at HD and they seemed to smoothly transition from the sink to the top. The cabinet guys said that many are glued on to the fabricated counter top and come in white or a tan type color. The decent under-counter sinks were a bit pricey. Is the chipping of the sink or counter top a frequent issue? Got to wonder what's wrong with the formica setup - ours only lasted 50 years. Guess that's too simple a solution for today's world.
