Wild Turkey Recipes

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any good wild turkey recipes to share? Got my first bird in 8 years and the last one I just deep fried for Thanksgiving. Anyone ever try making turkey jerky with a wild bird before? I don't have a smoker otherwise I would try that. Basically I got the grill, oven, deep fryer, and dehydrator. If anyone has a dynamite recipe for one of these cooking methods please share. Thanks!

i use a dry rub of salt, sugar, black pepper, and herbs like thyme/sage for a few hours, then throw on the grill. superb

Had several people over for my bird and they said it was the best turkey they'd ever had, and they'd never even had wild turkey before

I just did one last night. Cut the breast into chunks (golf ball size or so) and marinaded them in Italian dressing for a couple days, then cook them quick on a hot grill. DO NOT OVERCOOK! If you really want a treat, wrap them in bacon first.

Another favorite of ours, cut each breast half into 4 or 5 pieces, roll them in flour, brown in butter, then put them in a pan with a can of cream of chicken (or mushroom) soup. Bake covered at about 350 for an hour or so.

Both of those sound good DonBo. The first one is how I do pheasant but I use a different marinade. I might have to split up the bird into a couple different recipes and see what tastes best.
