FIRST FAWN

Recommended Posts

I saw my first fawn of the year yesterday. I take the long way to work in the morning and saw a doe cross the road in front of me. I also saw a turkey farther up the road. I slowed down to a crawl hoping to get a picture of the turkey when out of the corner of my eye I noticed an orange color behind a woven wire fence. I stopped to look and to my surprise and delight stood a newborn. Apparently mom had jumped the fence and crossed the road. I decided to get a closer picture so I stopped and slowly approached the fawn. It was just off the shoulder of the road. As I approached it slowly sank to the ground and laid flat as best it could. I took a couple of pictures and as I walked back to the car, I noticed mom watching me about 50 yds away. I drove down the road about a mile and turned around to check on it and sure enough mom had come back and moved it to a safer location. It couldn't have been more than a few hours old. What a way to start a day grin

Went for a walk with the pooch last night. Came over a little hill and saw a doe with a fawn. The doe ran off and the fawn layed down in some tall grass. I walked up to it. Pretty cool the dog was 1 foot from the fawn but she didn't see it or smell it. Cute little fart. I wanted to pet it but didn't want to put my smell on it. We just walked away. I'm sure mama wasn't very far away.....
