Boat registration sticker question.

I went on a trip with my boat yesterday and noticed when I stopped for gas that I was about to lose both of my stickers in the wind. It is clearly my fualt as I tried to stack stickers instead of taking my time and peeling the old ones off. Lesson learned. I did not want to lose my tags so I peeled what little was holding them on off. What is going to happen if a DNR officer approched and I explain they were falling off, and hand them to him/her from my tackle box?

i would think that if the co wants to be a real stickler about it, he would advise you that you stickers should be visible at all times, but as most of the co's are, they will generally give a guy a break with a warn. and he will probably tell you to find a way of getting them affixed to the boat. i ran into the same situation on one of my vehicles, i had some left over 5 min epoxy laying around, and just slapped that over the back of the stickers, needless to say, they are not going to fall off anytime soon!!, next year i'm peeling all the prev. years tabs off!! blush

Be sure to clean the surface first, an alcohol swab and wipe works best. Then they will stick properly.

Pulling off the old decals is not a bad idea, as they may loosen due to age, and then clean the area well. You done all you can do then, they should hold fast.

Don't use WD-40 as it will leave an oil film, use alcohol to clean the area.

I've had my stickers fall off of my canoe, and boat in the last year. They don't fall off, more so peel apart. The stickers are a double layer, and the top layer just isn't durable enough to be a registration sticker. Superglue them back on and your good to go.

Ours are doing the same thing. Black tape was my temporary fix and weather stripping adhesive will be the permanent fix. They just dont seem to stick the way they should and I would be surprised if they last until 2013 like theyre supposed to.

We ran into this problem a few years back on rainy river. Boy the one CO gave us lesson in interagations, he thought it was a canadian sticker from his binoc's.

Anyway The co's told us to pull the one falling sticker off and to later super glue it back on when we got back to town. I will say that you will be checked if it is not visable or readable.

I also have the a peeling sticker that was properly place on my boat last season, something is going with thier reg stickers.

I had a sticker peel off on my boat, got a warning since I had the other sticker and the registration card. The water patrol said it is becoming a very common problem with the stickers. I went into the DMV and it was like 6 bucks for duplicates. They have to mail them out from the main office instead of printing on site so it takes a couple days to get them.

I had the opposite problem....I got my new stickers and when I tried to peel off my old one the top part came off and the rest of it stuck to the boat. I don't want to scrape the rest off for fear of damaging my paint. Anyone have any advice on best way to get the 'second layer" off of my boat w/damaging/scratching paint so I can put new ones on?

try heating the sticker up with a blow drier then slowly peel it off. heating up the sticker will re-activate the adhesive and allow you to work it off of your boat without damaging the boat. if there's any adhesive residue left, just clean it off with a cleaner like simple green.

I lucked out this weekend with the sticker issue. I was in a hurry and put on one side but forgot the other side. The local CO was very nice and reminded me to put on the other one. Last year mine were falling off and I just used clear tape.

I had the exact same problem with my stickers (top came off the rest stayed on) Used some Goo Gone on it and it took it off no problem. Then just cleaned the area good with soap and water and put the new stickers on. All worked well.

The last 2 times I have gotten stickers the top laminate comes off and I refuse to buy reprints for stickes the fall apart from a quality issue. I have been stopped multiple times and have the card on me to prove I have tabs and never get a ticket, but if I do, I will see them in court. They need to get better quality stickers.
