What size trolling motor for my boat?

We have a couple of 14 foot aluminum boats. I have a 40lb thrust trolling motor I use between the 2 of them, but it seems like there isnt enough power when the wind blows over 10 mph.

How must many pounds of thrust should I have? The boat I use the most is a 14 foot lund that's much wider than the other one we have. I cant find the weight of the boat either.

I Would go with a 55lb unless you want to go 24 volts then i would use a 70lb.

I use a 55lb thrust on my 16' Navigator. It would be nice to have a little more power but that's 3% of the time. Otherwise it pushes my boat around just fine.

55lb only because its the biggest 12v.

Yup... as they say.. "Go Big or Go Home".. get the biggest you can afford and use. Nobody has ever told me, "Man, I have too much trolling motor".. but I can not tell you how many times I have heard I do not have enough.

Yep --- with a 14' boat I assume you're going with 1 deep cycle battery, not 2, so you'll want a 55 lb motor.

I believe mine is a 55lb motor guide and it is more than enough on my 14 footer

I have a 14ft boat that has a 36lb thrust and that seems to do the job but like has been mentioned if you are going for more power without more batteries go to the 55lb thrust

I vote for the 55lbs also - get as big as you can afford.

Also if your looking at bow mounted motors make sure you get plenty of shaft length. Nothing worse than having enough power but not being able to keep it in the water on a windy day.
