I bought it at cabellas, it was 1,349 + tax and shipping. There was no more LCX units in stock as of last night but a trick to finding them is the type "Lowrance Refurbished" in the search. There was also good deals on the LCX38CHD for 979 but I moved to slow. I would have picked up a used one but they also come with a one year warranty.

Ask Big C if you can still also add a 2 year protection policy on it as well. Smart add on as you already know it is a Legacy Unit, and any service work will cost you big time even under warranty.

Call Lowrance once and ask what the minimum fee is for that unit for any repair, it will surprise you. Warranty or not on a Legacy class unit, it will cost you.

What the heck kind of warranty is it if there is a big fee?

Just ask any guy who had to deal with a repair on a Legacy Unit and see what they say.

Once they put them in Legacy class they put a minimum repair fee on them and it will go up depending on the nature of the repair.

So I always recommend to anyone who knowingly is buying a Legacy unit to get a extended plan, if available, to cover there initial investment no matter what happens.

If they advertised it with a ducer, get a new one from them. Actually that is not a bad deal really, I would not want a used ducer that badly either...too many bad ones in the history books for them anyway.

So try to get them to fork over the new ducer of your choice.

As was stated it would not come with a GPS receiver module if it was and internal model, so nothing is bogus there. If you wished to add a external puck receiver latter I advise the new 4000 series for it's enhanced accuracy and speedy update rate.

The manual you can download off line and is a handy way to work with it.

The deal is some packages are minus the ducer to lower the advertised cost. So they may say that was the case...common trick at some retailers. But if they indicated it would be complete, I would push them on the ducer and the screen cover for sure.

Before you buy. Call lowrance and see if they even work on that unit anymore. I had a 14 month old globalmap 7300c and they had NO PARTS OR REFURBISHED UNITS to fix me up. But hey for $600 I got an HD unit. Great, now I've spent $1400 over a year and a half for a $949.00 unit.

Looked at them at the big C and noticed they didn't come with the ducer. Asked the guy if they'd through in the transducer like they do on the new units and he asked the manager and they said no. Talked it out with them and you weren't really saving much when you look at the loss of a year warranty and no transducer. With the rebates and a $50 off card spent less than the refurbished units with a 2 year warranty and a new unit. Networked my new one with the one I got last year and have been very happy with them so far this year. Glad I sold my older 112 and upgraded.

That's what I went with. Looked at the HDS7 very hard but the screen size was to small for the hopeful structure scan in the future. Am very happy with the HDS8. Have a HDS5 on the front and I think I'd go with a 5 over a 7 for the price difference and screen size. The 8 is very easy to work so far. Just am not very impressed with the 7's for some reason. Just opinion I guess?

agree with you basseyes. Did a little research at the gander mountain and am leaning toward the HDS8.

Food for thought...for that kinda of $$$$ why not consider the Humminbird 898c or ci? You get all the side and down scan features and more plus and a wide screen for the same change. The 2 data card slots is a feature not to be overlooked too, makes many things handy.
