Garden soil question

hockeybc69

Question

I live in Sheburne county where sand is prevelant.

What should/can I add to my garden to get some vigor into the soil?

Peat moss?

black dirt?

manure? (preferably not what I want to deal with)

A little of all of the above and more??

Whats a good thing to add?

Check out raised beds and square foot gardening. I live in sand country

and have 2 4X12 raised beds. It's amazing how much you can grow in a small

area and have control over your soil. Sand will need more soil added every

year. This is my first year trying "global buckets" for my tomatos I think

they are going to work well though, there is a lot of videos on raised bed

and global bucket gardening on U-Tube.

Why not manure? If you're concerned about odor, it really depends on how wet and how new the manure is. Older manure doesn't have much odor at all.

Tree leaves might work okay too.
